Boost for Cardiff as transfer target is not offered new contract

Cardiff City have been given a boost in their pursuit to sign Jonathan Kodjia after Aston Villa turned down the chance to offer him a new contract.
The striker has fallen out of favour at the Midlands side and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it is thought that Dean Smith will try to offload him in January if they can find a replacement forward.
Football Insider says that Villa will allow him to leave for free with Cardiff City being heavily linked to the ex-Bristol City man along with foreign clubs such as Turkish side Besiktas.
The 30-year-old scored a brace in the EFL Cup quarter final match against Liverpool which Villa won 5-0 but Smith still wants to cut him from the wage bill in January if he can.
Ivorian Kodjia joined Villa in 2016 for £15m from Bristol City.
He was initially a hit with the fans for his goal scoring prowess but he has found game time hard to come by this year and he is now well down the pecking order at Villa Park.
Villa rejected a £7m bid from Qatar side Al-Gharafa in the summer, according to Football Insider, but a move may now be on the horizon after contract talks came to a decisive conclusion between the player and the club.

Did he play with Tomlin and Pack ? He might find it attractive to come to a club where he knows a few players.
He would be a pretty good signing for us but I just wonder whether we're in the market to pay that sort of money anymore ?

only 4 teams have scored more goals in this division. and 3 of those four have scored 1 more....I really don't get the obsession with having one player that scores..

He said in his weekly conference that we've had no interest him, him and that Panadera the one who supposedly start taking them Welsh lessons. He said he was baffled how all these rumours get started.

It always amazes me how often we are linked with certain players despite the manager changing, like the Villa striker, linked with him under Warnock and still now under Harris. Its all agent talk.

think its a bit of both agents pushing players and sites like football league world making up stories...
we don't have a prolific goal scorer so therefore along with 2/3 other clubs that don't get chucked into a story where all three are in some sort of race for the signing. its amazing how often even given 3 bites at the cherry they are wrong..

What a daft comment. We got relegated last year and we 12th mid table championship at the moment. Having a striker who knows how to find the back of the net is going to make us a better side than having one that dont. Do you think leicester would have won the league without vardy?man city without aguero, messi at barca, ronaldo at madrid, pukki at norwich. Goalscorers win you games and titles and teams are far better with them than without them go give your head a wobble and come back

as long as we score enough there is no issue and there wouldn't be an issue at any of those clubs had they won games without subuteosam getting a golden boot.. just as many teams have had a prolific scorer an been poor...and teams have had success without one including 2 promotions by CCFC ..try coming down and taking a look... actually try figuring out how we play...and how effective some of those mentioned might be without having a nicely weighted ball played to them all game..
our issue this year is we concede too many..

I agree mostly with this.
It’s obvious that if we had a goal scorer who netted around 18 goals a season for example, then all things being equal we’d win more matches.

Kodja has turned into a Championship Messi. He has scored 10 championship goals in 2 seasons
