Almeria winger Gaspar Panadero has been linked with a January move to the Bluebirds

Young Almeria winger Gaspar Panadero is closing in on a January move to Cardiff City, according to sources in Spain.

Last week it was claimed the Bluebirds were one of three sides hoping to land the winger, alongside Almeria's second division rivals Burgos and Cypriot side Apollon Limassol.

People we have spoken to in Spain seem increasingly confident the 22-year old will be a Cardiff player when the January window re-opens, adding that the forward is keen to test himself in the English league.

Initial suggestions point to a loan deal with the option of a permanent fee worth around £1m, which would represent a big pay day for the Spanish side, who are currently second in the Segunda Division.

Cardiff have not yet made any comment on any proposed move, while sources close to the player have distanced Panadero from the Bluebirds at this stage.

Nevertheless, there is widespread expectation in Spain that the winger will move on this winter, given he is currently the only first team player yet to make a first team appearance under new manager, Guti.

Indeed, there has even been a suggestion he is being protected ahead of a potential departure, having recently recovered from a knee injury that kept him sidelined for seven months.

And, the feeling among the locals is that he is on his way to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Local news outlet Euro Weekly even went so far as to claim that the player had 'mistakenly' started learning Welsh beforehand.

The report claims that despite knowing English, the player was apparently unaware that Welsh was not as widely spoken, although it could certainly go some way to making him a hit with the Bluebirds fans.

Ultimately, of course, should Panadero become Neil Harris' first signing, he will be judged by performances on the pitch.

The starlet made history when he came on as a substitute to make his debut for Almeria at the age of 16 years and 277 days, becoming the youngest player to make his debut for the club and one of the youngest in the history of La Liga.

He has since gone on to represent Spain at under-18 and under-19 level.

When you read the part where it says "...having recently recovered from a knee injury that kept him sidelined for seven months" you feel this WILL happen. :|
