Is it time to drop him and bring Smithies back? Not sure what’s happened to him this season but his kicking has been terrible (not much different from previous seasons) and is lacking in confidence. You can sense the nervousness when he has the ball and I’m sure the players are picking up on this which is one of the reasons why our defending has been so poor. For the penalty yesterday I felt he could’ve stood his ground and kept the player wide as the player wasn’t going anywhere. I’m surprised Smithies was dropped as he is a better kicker and seems more assured in goal.

I don't think Smithies should ever have been dropped.
Both have pros and cons and both good keepers but personally I'd go with Smithies.

Smithies should be no. 1
Etheridge looks dodgy and nervous. His kicks under pressure are terrible and his quick throws. He gave A couple of balls straight to Brentford’s attacking players and at Leeds should of stayed on his feet

It's not just when he is under pressure either, he generally kicks poorly.

I would sell him if an offer came in in January. Smithies to number 1 and Day as backup. The starting 11 wont be any worse off (both are solid championship keepers) and the club will be £5mill+ (at least) better off.
