MY VIEW " CARDIFF CITY FOUGHT BACK IN THE SECOND HALF BUT FELL SHORT "

City were poor in the first half tonight, much better in the second half but wasn't enough to take something from the game

Neil Harris made one change from the win over Barnsley, with Danny Ward replacing Gary Madine.

Joe Ralls was back in the matchday squad.

Etheridge, Peltier, Flint, Nelson, Bennett, Pack, Bacuna, Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Tomlin, Ward

Brentford started strongly and could have taken the lead in the first minute, but Benrahma missed a good chance

Brentford totally dominated the start of the game

Cardiff got their first shot nearly 20 minutes in, when Lee Tomlin's effort was deflected wide

Junior Hoilett picked up an early injury and was replaced by Josh Murphy in the 22nd minute

A minute later, Brentford had another good chance but Jensen shot straight at Etheridge

Bacuna shot over the bar for Cardiff

GOAL: BRENTFORD 1-0 CARDIFF CITY - Mbeumo scored from close range to give the hosts the lead.

Murphy headed straight at the goalkeeper on 38 minutes

Brentford dominated the first half and nearly doubled their lead just before the break but Etheridge saved Benrahma's effort

HALF TIME: BRENTFORD 1-0 CARDIFF CITY

GOAL: BRENTFORD 2-0 CARDIFF CITY - Brentford got a second goal just after the second half started, with Watkins scoring following a corner

Cardiff got a couple of corners in response to the second Brentford goal, but they didn't come to anything

Josh Murphy had a shot comfortably saved by the goalkeeper

Gary Madine replaced Mendez-Laing in the 62nd minute

GOAL: BRENTFORD 2-1 CARDIFF CITY - Marlon Pack with a brilliant strike to get City back in the game in the 64th minute

Josh Murphy booked in the 68th minute.

Ward headed just wide in the 71st minute

City were the better team in the second half and were looking for that late equaliser

Callum Paterson replaced Ward in the 81st minute

Bennett booked in the 82nd minute

FULL TIME: BRENTFORD 2-1 CARDIFF CITY

Next up another difficult away game at Leeds on Saturday

Terrible first half but thought we deserved a point for our second half performance other than the first minute...

Credit Harris for his formation changes. The last half hour was mostly City with a spirited fightback. With more composure and control in midfield we should have not lost that. We need to sell Murphy in the window and maybe Mendez too. We are not a top 6 side but I like what Harris has done so far.

Dreadful first half and slightly better 2nd half. Brentford played us off the park for about 60% of the game. IMHO we had 3 players who were awful Holliett, NML & Murphy.

Ward benefitted from Madene coming on (as did the whole team) and we got absolutely nothing from the referee who seemed (at times) to have been swayed by the home fans.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise as Neil Harris has kept faith in the same team (with minor changes) for 4 games. Perhaps he will make a few changes for the game at Leeds - Ralls back in would be one I would welcome.

How funny football is, we looked much better with Madine on and I was actually disappointed he wasn’t starting! I love Danny ward and feel like Madine for 65 mins then ward on for the last 25 mins to stretch a tiring team was really working. I think Harris will have learnt a lot from that and having Madine as a focal point for tomlin and co to play off is the way to go.

Would also like to see Ralls come back in.

We might have pinched a point in the end but it wasn’t to be. I said to my boy that we will lose tonight then beat Leeds on Saturday. A little pinch of reality for Harris tonight and I think he is learning more about his squad as each game goes by. One minor improvement I would make for Saturday is to not concede a goal right from the second half kick off :D

Agree with most first half was arguably the worst half since harris joined

Second half last 30 odd minutes we kept pushing and pushing and fell short

I've given harris a lot longer to settle in then some who are calling him shit already

He got bottle to change formation and tactics and will show the worth and quality of individual players.

In the first half did bennet show some skills overlapping or what :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

I thought Flint's distribution was appalling.. and Bacuna seemed to be muscled off the ball too often.. agree Murphy is not with it and NML looks half hearted and seems to go in short spurts then goes missing.
Ralls and Whyte back in for me

The fullbacks are the problem because they do not attack with any conviction. If we had more attacking fullbacks we could go with one winger, none of who we have now, we could then play another midfielder in a 3 man midfield giving protection to the back four and supporting the front men. However, this squad is poor, get rid of 12/15 and bring in 5/6 quality players with pace. Harris needs to sort this out in January or there will be calls for him to go. Last night was shocking with some players not trying.

My view after the first few games was that Warnock had spent a hell of a lot of money to create a fairly ordinary mid table side who have no chance of making the playoffs or being relegated. Since Harris has come in I have seen nothing to change that view a change in formation or the players we already have will be an excercise in rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. Main hope for the season is a decent run in the cup.

Hopefully as we get towards the end of the season with nothing to play for Harris will give a couple of the youngsters a go in the first team if we have any who might be championship level players.

you just cant be knocking 70 yard balls if its Ward your playing as a solitary forward...

it improved when Madine came on and should have started him , or not started with a game plan of knocking those balls with very little chance of getting anything from them.

 absolutely correct and you'd think Harris will revert back on Saturday?
