Who’s your favourite ‘cult hero’ to have played for Cardiff? For me it’s Jon Parkin, wasn’t the most skilful of players but the fans loved him and he always played the game with a smile on his face. Thought it was class when he turned up in the away end against Derby this season too!

Stant had it all.. good footballer as well.

Not really a cult hero but a random player I loved was Josh Low, back in the old 3rd division I thought he was our answer to Ryan Giggs
As for cult hero probably Mcphail, I seem to spend a lot of time defending him as a player, thought he was brilliant. He seems to get more praise from fans looking back at him than he did at the time, red card at Swansea didn't help.

Robin Friday

McPhail was absolutely class. One of the best footballers and technically gifted players iv seen play for us.

Good calls. For worst manager I’d have to say Alan Durban though.

Psycho has got to be up there. What he lacked in skill more than made up for in effort and leadership.

How about Mel Sutton ?
More meat on a pipe cleaner but he would kick anything and anyone that came within 5 yards of him.
At times he could play a bit too.

Chopra recently but phil Stant was ace

For some reason friday always gets a mention. I saw him play and he obviously had talent, but he only scored six goals for us, was generally useless when he played, not interested at all. And then 'disappeared' for a long while in the the summer of 1977 only to come back and play two more games, one of which was sent off in.
Stant I agree, at least he scored goals and was a 100% effort player. Chopra maybe, Whittingham certainly. But I prefer players who gave a lot to the club like Don Murray, Gary Bell, Toshacka and Clark, Jason Perry, Damon Searle etc.

Blakey. Was the hero that got me hooked. Jason Perry a close second.

watched most of his games and I agree... was clear he could be good if he felt like but had loads of issues it seems...bar 2 maybe 3 games was piss poor.

Purely on the basis of being my favourite City players, it would have to be Ian Gibson, Peter King and John Toshack. Younger fans would have loved Don Murray too.
Thu Dec 05, 2019 8:06 pm
Phil Dwyer early days but Craig Bellamy is my abs fav....drove everyone insane at times

How haven't Whitts and McNaughton not been mentioned yet?? What differentiates a cult hero to a normal hero?

Jimmy Andrews?
If it wasn’t for him Toshack would have put us in the first division.
Ritchie Morgan was my favourite manager.
Most skilful? Jay Bothroyd.
