Travelling to Baku

Sat Nov 30, 2019 7:58 pm

Did anyone go to Baku with Wales a few weeks ago? I’m trying to figure out the best way of doing it with a view of going to Rome after it, if anyone can offer any suggestions?

Yeah we went, flew from Heathrow to Istanbul then Istanbul to Baku , went with Turkish airlines and they were good to be fair. Can't help you with getting to Rome sorry, never been there, but would think it straightforward from Istanbul, there was flight s to pretty much everywhere on the boards there, massive airport, one of the biggest in the world I'm told.

What sort of prices are we looking st to fly to Baku and back plus accommodation, is it expensive or cheap out there ?
Plus how much are the daps?

We paid £420 for the flights and £70 for three nights hotel and breakfast, bare in mind though that this was in November when hotel demands are low, should imagine prices will be going up, summer time and all that. Booze and food were cheap out there if you avoid the touristy bars, back street boozers were selling pints for less than a £1, one bar we found sold pints for 69p, not sure about daps.

We had a 4 double bed apartment (2 floors and huge) next to the Iranian Embassy for £510 for 3 nights......cheap as chips.

I suspect that the prices are going to rise substantially for accomadation. That said the beer is relatively cheap and the hospitality from the locals is 2nd to none. They love the Welsh but aren't too keen on the english. :D

We flew Birmingham to Istanbul, then on to Baku. £380 flights-with Turkish airlines ( good company) free beer and food on flights :occasion5:
Hotel cost £38 per triple room in city.center, highly recommended it was a good trip

I've managed to get the flights out on the Friday for a little more than £ 100, not much more tan we paid last time. Hotel prices are much dearer though. Around 5x the price they were 2 weeks ago.

Ryanair to Kiev and Buta to Baku. You had to be out of the blocks quick though as they were rising as we were booking. Now nearly twice that by the time you add on for a cabin bag that most of these low cost carriers want extra for. This is turning to a tricky and I fear expensive trip though. I've tried numerous routes back to Italy all with bugger all success short of paying heavily. There must some enterprising charter airline that will step in with these Euros. After the first game the Swiss will be flying to Rome as the Turkish will be flying from there to Baku. After the second game the Swiss will be flying back to Baku from Rome will we're doing it in reverse. Taylor made, probably full in both directions.

You can book a return direct from Cardiff to Baku via Doha for about £420 at present!

Its more like £800 now if you want to book a return! Though one way and a route to Rome obviously will be done by some.

We have paid £75 from Heathrow to Istanbul (had some spare Airmiles) to use. Staying in Istanbul for 2 night's from the 10/06 to 12/06.

From Istanbul we have a direct flight to Baku a day before the Swiss game. And have a week's stay in Baku at the Passage Boutique close to Fountain Sq on Nizami St close to the central bars and cafes area. £396 for a week for the 3 of us. Flight with Azerbaijan Airlines was £102.

After the Turkish game we have a flight via Istanbul to Rome. £146 on 19th. 3 night's in Rome. £300 Hotel Estate. And day after Rome game. Getting the Train up to Turin and Ryanair to London for £18 and home.

Busy two weeks it will be but can't wait. It will be better than France and, will be scorching.

Don't want to worry you mate but we were booked to stay at the passage boutique hotel last month for the Wales game and when we arrived in Baku they told us we couldn't stay there, they overbook on a regular basis and turn people away. They found us another hotel for the same cost but it was a fair walk from the town centre. Have a look at some of the reviews of this hotel, they do this trick quite often.

They did it with the hotel we booked because they couldn't fit us in for the first night. We refused to transfer back for the remaining 3 nights which caused a little bit of aggro between the hotels. We're hoping to stay there this time.

Our flights total have come in around £ 300 mark but that is out of Stansted and returning to Southend. We've still got to get a train to Milan for the flight back.

We stayed there last month for 6 nights and had no problems at all.
With the extra support of the Swiss and Girls and Is, it may be a different story. We have booked a few other Accommodations at various other hotels in Baku should there be a problem. See you put there. Come and introduce yourself and, we have a few wet ones!

Best I can get is £482
Via Dubai on Emirates
Hotel is 112 each twin rooms (8 of us going ) for 7 nights at the black mount hotel which is apparently a designated football hotel for the euros whatever that means

I can't believe so many have already booked.....I'm still in negotiations with the wife! :-? It's gonna cost me.....

Re: Travelling to Baku

Tue Dec 03, 2019 10:12 pm

I've booked the round trip but expensive.
Heathrow to Baku via Frankfort, 8 hours or so. Baku to Rome via Minsk! Day there so can get the badge, Rome to London with Italia but fly's into London City airport via Milan. It less than a thousand but flights are at decent times.

Hotels, are different matter. Last trip to Baku, same hotel quoted me 32k pounds for eight nights :o I didn't respond. I'm in more or less daily contact with a lady I met over there so can help if asked.

Rome. Last time I was there I stayed in the Vatican, no bullshit but a long story. Was ex whose brother was "trainee priest" with the order that looks after the secrets. I won't be invited back there again  A tip, fly into Fiumicino, sometimes called Leonardo da Vinci airport, it's 35kms outside but well cheap and easy on train to get into city.

For those looking to do it on a small budget, may I suggest Mods? Looking at Apostle Welsh message board, guy Manulike who has cheap travel to all Wales away games sorted, often very long winded but does know his stuff.

That's the group games done, I'll have a think about the QF's, semis and final next year

Yep, advice I've had from my friend over there is avoid the Passage and all "hotels" in same group, they're scammers. They'll take your money and if you get there first you'll get the room, those and there will be many, who don't, if they're lucky, get put up in wherever they can find a space. Could be in one of the staffs granny's house in the middle of nowhere or slotted in the back of the head as being annoying, may allahn bless socialism. Anyway, I'm sorted, I'm staying at my lady friends relatives house which could or more likely be very interesting

One word of advice to all, respect. Treat the local folk with respect and you'll have it back in droves, they're lovely, lovely people, turks are a bunch of cunts though.
