Junior Hoilett looking tired for that penalty miss?

Sun Nov 24, 2019 4:48 pm

One week looks like a world beater and the next week he's a little bit less good!

I don't know if he was tired from travelling half way round the world for international duty but that excuse for a penalty he took yesterday was one of the weakest I have ever seen. My grandmother could have hit it harder and she's 94 and in a wheelchair.

He can curl in a 30 yarder that no goalie can get near and yet from 12 yards he'd probably miss even if there was no goalkeeper in the goal. The keeper yesterday was lying on the ground waiting for the ball by the time it got to him.

Hopefully for our next penalty he'll stay up the other end of the pitch.

I’m surprised Pack is not an option after Ralls.

I thought it was the perfect opportunity for Madine to lay the ghost of that miss against Wolves to rest and finally get a goal for us

Didn’t Hoilett miss one against Wolves too?

Warnock said Junior is poor when he hits a static ball. Never should have taken it.

Peter whittingham best penalty taker we ever had

I was quite surprised when he took it tbh. I thought Pack, Madine or NML would’ve had it before him. Oh well, can’t score them all.

When we were awarded the penalty I must admit I did wonder who would take it and I was a bit surprised Junior took it because he seemed low on confidence during the game up to that point.

Gary Madine didn't seem to fancy it perhaps remembering what happened against Wolves but I am a little surprised that Mendez Laing didn't take it after the way he scored his penalty against Man United.

I thought NML would have taken it considering he took one against Man Utd and scored, so a bit surprised that Hoilett was the one to take it. Id be surprised if Hoilett takes another pen for us after the Wolves miss and now the Charlton miss.

Very poor decision on management behalf give it to a player who can take a pen his one against wolves was shocking don't even go there about him being tired

Has it been made clear whether it was decided who would be taking our penalty if we got one before the game or did Hoilett just step up to the plate? Hoilett would have been nowhere near my first choice to take one. It's a bit of an indictment of our two forwards that neither of them was considered good enough to take a penalty. The way Madine was finishing yesterday it's doubtful if he would have got it even on target.

It's indicative of our wide players and attackers delivery that none of them are trusted with penalties.

Nah, best penalty taker we ever had was Ronnie Bird. Not the greatest of footballers had but every penalty I saw him hit was into the top corner and totally unstoppable.

When he plays, give them to Glatzel, he put his away with aplomb. :old: :bluebird:

Whenever we were awarded a penalty, we celebrated it like a goal - with Whittingham, it was THAT nailed on!

Think Etheridge should have taken it given that VT once said he wants more shots in target by goalkeepers!

Run up was so predictable he was going in that corner...

I agree with a previous post about Ronnie Bird as a penalty taker. I remember him scoring 2 in a 4-0 win against Aston Villa in the early seventies Tosh completed the scoring with the other two. I do, however, remember RB having a pen saved by Jacks keeper, Millington I think in a Welsh Cup semi final replay at the vetch. Peter King soon made up for that with an absolute worldy in a 2-0 extra time win. Welsh Cup replays? those were the days :bluescarf: :bluebird: :occasion5:

Joe Bennett scored a penalty for us at qpr a few years ago. He is an option ?

Didn't NML score from the penalty spot at Old Trafford?
