MY VIEW / OPINION

NEIL HARRIS FIRST MATCH IN CHARGE OF THE BLUEBIRDS & A TOUGH HALF-TIME TEAM TALK BY HARRIS SECURED CARDIFF AN AWAY DRAW AT CHARLTON AFTER BEING 2NIL DOWN. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Excellent comeback by Cardiff City :thumbright: :bluebird:

With Cardiff Fans Singing Neil Harris Blue & White Army :bluebird: :bluebird:

Harris has inherited a team full of talent, but now he needs to get the wins to send City up the table and near to the play=offs.

Cardiff have not won away all season( 9 away games).

Second-half: Neil Harris must have laid the law down to the Cardiff team as they were totally a different side and Harris bringing on Lee Tomlin later on brought Cardiff right back in to the game and made for a much better half by Cardiff.

First -half: Cardiff started brightly, but as soon as Charlton did their first attack of the game, Cardiff's defence was blown apart and this happened again later on, letting Charlton score again making it 2-0

Charlton were missing a lot of key players today (10 first team players injured) and their defence had 3 ex Cardiff City players who had come through Cardiff's Academy Matthews,Lockyer and Oshilaja. Charltons injuries were so bad, they could not field a full bench today.

In contrast Cardiff had a bench full of talent.

CHARLTON 2 CARDIFF CITY 2
Crowd
Away Support 1,670

Cardiff City: Etheridge, Peltier, Nelson, Flint, Bennett, Pack, Bacuna, Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Paterson, Madine

Subs: Smithies, Morrison, Coxe, Vaulks, Murphy, Tomlin, Bogle

It was all Cardiff for the first 10mins and then bang Charltons first attack and totally split Cardiff's defence apart,Conor Gallagher scored as Cardiff were caught on the break.

That was awful defending as Bennett and Nelson failed to to make the challenges necessary.

From then on Cardiff seemed to lose composure and other than have a penalty decision turned down, there seemed to be no structure to this Cardiff City attack whatsoever.

42nd min there was another goal on the break from Charlton. Gallagher slotted in Jonathan Leko and the forward rifled home a lovely finish past Etheridge.
City's defence once again torn apart.

H/T 2-0

Second-half, Cardiff came out strong and looked like they had, had a rollicking of Harris.

48th min Cardiff had a penalty, but Junior Hoilett had his shot easily saved.

52nd min, A goalmouth scramble from the corner fell to Mendez-Laing just five yards out and he hammered it into the roof of the net 2-1 :bluebird:

Cardiff seemed to up their game and were on the attack, with Bacuna having a shot which looked like it was going in, until the Charlton keeper made a great save.

66th min Cardiff double subs: Tomlin and Bogle came on, Madine and Hoilett went off.

73rd minute Lee Tomlin shot 2-2 :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:
Sending Cardiff fans in to raptures :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

78th Paterson went off looking badly injured and was replaced by Vaulks.

7 mins of extra time, end to end, with both clubs looking like scoring.

Off 4 days training... Happy with that. Improvements all over.

Should've won really. 2 poor goals conceded. Hatful of chances missed.

If we had lost today the usual idiots would be calling for the manager's head, after all 4 days is more than enough to turn us into potential champions. ;)

Our stats were great today,24 shots! Liked the way we didn't just shut up shop at 2 all,as you say,we could and probably should of won, much better 2nd half, except why let Hoilett take the pen? His record isn't the best, why not just smash it? Would have been a superb fightback (not that I'm unhappy :occasion5: ) possession at 43% is great also  ,on to Tuesday now,in much better spirits than at half time :ayatollah: :old: :bluebird:

Lots of questions with January transfer targets essential up front, at right back and in central midfield.

Have we ever had a slower midfielder than Pack? Charlton aren’t scoring no 2 if Pack could run.

Have we ever had centre forwards with less skill in doing the basics like holding it, trapping it and passing straight?

Why doesn’t Bennett make more runs like he did for our equaliser?

Why did Hoilett take the penalty?

Why did we allow Charlton to have a second wind?

Fair play they came back and unlucky to go 2 down but that was such a winnable game.

What an outstanding display

Players wanting the ball

Passing and movement

Hopefully exciting times ahead

Our defence needs sorting quickly. Charlton were a decent team, but if we come up against a better team we will be in trouble. Madine should have scored with a header, hes league one at best.

I believe the way we will set up,could in fact be the key to our misfiring forwards woes to date ;) I thought madine did better today than the credit he's getting, you must agree surely, that today's game was as entertaining, no more entertaining than any game to date this season?? Onwards and upwards, let's try to conentrate on the positive aspects of the 2nd half display. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :old: :bluebird:

After a few days in

More possession
Better passing with the exception of a few loose balls
Play was more built up
Fight to win was there

Thought Madine was there or abouts just was unlucky
Defence is shakey due to change In tactics but expected

Penalty disallowed & a penalty missed
On another day we may have scored 5 or 6 I thought

First game in a long time I enjoyed watching

Draw was fare Charlton and a few kids playing showed what you can do also.

Spoke to a couple of charlton fans before the game and they want kids coming through also

Happy with today on to the next one :bluescarf: :bluebird: :ayatollah:

Pack and Flint aren’t for me.

Way too slow for a promotion chasing team.

Hopefully soon we see Bamba and Morrison at the back again.

Get Ralls in for pack.

I certainly thought today was a lot more entertaining than what has gone before this season.I think we will score more goals under Harris as he likes to play with two up front. Most of his time at Millwall he had Steve Morrisson and Lee Gregory up front, we will probably concede more goals too.

Our problem is our strikers are looking a bit crap. I like Patterson but he seems to have gone backwards since our promotion and premier league season. Should have had Tomlin on from the start. For all that he played well today Madine had two shots both blocked three headers one over the bar,one wide of the post, and one straight into the arms of the keeper. With the finishing he showed today he might go the rest of the season without scoring. We did create a few chances today wonder how a Glatzel Ward combination would have done.

To be honest with 10 players out injured Charlton were there for the taking any team who hopes to get anywhere near the playoffs should have won.Mid table obscurity for us this season if we do have any youngsters who might make the first team or more likely Charltons first team it might be worth giving them a go.

Should have been a win against such injury ridden opposition but fair play to Cardiff they didn't park the bus or try and turtle up. A proper fight came out for the draw at the end which was great to see. The missed pen was a shocker but there should have been another pen given to Cardiff before that. Hopefully this game is the start of a new refinement to Cardiffs tactics.

Considering Neil Harris has only been with the squad 4 days. I thought it was a solid performance especially after the first half team talk.

First time in a while that I thought we played some decent balls and I enjoyed the game - two competitive teams.

Things should get better as we progress.

Tomlin as sub is a diamond !!!!

Onwards and Upwards :notworthy:  :bluescarf: :occasion5:

Showed fight today from 2-0 down....something we have lacked for most of the season .
Defence looks so schit at times that the better teams would put us away comfortably.
Pleased for Harris .
Think some of the players had downed tools for NW ...

Next 6 games will almost certainly push into play offs or finish our season into mid table .

Warnock has left us so badly exposed for pace, it’s frightening. Thanks Neil.

No pace or quality in the team at all. Completely overrun in midfield due to lack of pace.

Definitely an improvement today but we still are conceding soft goals. If Harris has got funds in January I’d be going all out for a pacey CM and try bring a striker in on loan. Now that our RB and LB are allowed to pass the halfway line I think it’ll only be a matter of time before we see coxe at RB.

I reiterate Pack is the slowest midfielder I’ve seen. If he had pace he’d be a top player. He’s only worth his place in a midfield 3.

Flint is a liability. I’d like to see Bamba and Nelson play CD.

I don’t get ML. He has strength and pace but seems unwilling to turn on the burners when he’s one on one but he did well to score today.

It’ll take a little time to see what our best X1 and formation is. Today he started 4-4-2 which left out central midfield exposed to breakaways.

Enjoyable game to watch; look forward to Tuesday but seemingly Stoke have found some form.

He picked the wrong starting side but he only had 4 days with the players. Flint needs to go, we need more pace throughout the side, midfield needs a major overhaul. However, much more of the ball on the floor, we were looking to play a bit so happy with the start :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :occasion5:
