'Unforgivable!' Furious Spanish media rage at Gareth Bale after what he did following the Wales match

Gareth Bale faces a hostile reception on his return to Madrid after dancing with the controversial flag last night

Wednesday 19th November 2019

The Spanish media have turned on Gareth Bale following the Real Madrid star's celebrations after Wales' 2-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win over Hungary.

Ryan Giggs' men booked their place at next year's tournament in style at Cardiff City Stadium, with Aaron Ramsey scoring twice on what was a memorable night in the Welsh capital.

Bale and his team mates celebrated on the pitch long into the night, with TV cameras capturing the moment the 30-year-old danced and laughed along with the rest of Wales' stars while holding the now infamous "Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order." flag.

And it was a moment that riled those in Madrid.

Spanish digital newspaper Madrid Sports wrote on Twitter: "What a bad taste, Gareth Bale. Unforgivable.

"We have always defended you, Gareth Bale.

"We have had patience with your thousand injuries, we have celebrated your goals and assists, we have defended your passion for golf and your limited Spanish.

"But enough. You are laughing at, as it puts on the flag, Madrid."

Prominent Spanish journalist Manu Sainz commented: "Bale knows he will be able to leave Madrid in January if he forces a move, but this is getting out of hand."

And in a tweet to his 57,000 followers, fellow journalist Ruben Martin said: "He is laughing at Madrid. At their fans and his teammates. He doesn't care. He doesn't deserve to wear the shirt.

"And he shouldn't wear it again. Ever."

Spanish media outlet Marca ran the story on the incident shortly after the match in Cardiff.

Within the article, they asked fans to vote in a poll that asked what they thought of the situation involving Bale.

The three options were as follows:

1) An unimportant gesture within the celebrations.

2) A mistake of getting caught up in the emotion.

3) A lack of respect for his club and fans.

More than 100,000 people had voted on the poll, with 71% stating they felt Bale showed a lack of respect to Real Madrid.

Bale also faced a backlash from some Real Madrid supporters on social media.

It follows what was a turbulent summer in which Bale appeared destined to leave the Spanish capital after Zinedine Zidane publicly declared that the Welshman did not feature in his plans.

Us Wales fans probably think it’s great what Bale did, but how would we like it if someone like Sol Bamba did that to us? We’d want to kill him!
Really think Bale is a bit of a cretin, there are ways and means of leaving a club, but Bale is not doing himself any favours here. Not that he probably gives a toss!

But Bamba wouldn’t do that to us, because we haven’t treated him like sh*t punching his car, and constantly hounding him and aggressively verbally abusing him.

He gets no respect from Real Madrid fans, so he repays the favour. Screw them.

What a ridiculous comparison you make Mr Bishop. How can you compare Sol's relationship with us to the disgusting treatment Gareth has received from the Madrid management, their so called fans and the shit Spanish press.

It is literally chalk and cheese, get a grip man!

This all hinges on how he came to being behind the flag .

If he picked it up himself knowing the message then he is out of order

If they were already posing with it and he just joined the picture he probably does not know what it says on it .

He isn't exactly walking round the pitch with it on his own

Even Ronaldo had stick off the Madrid fans, it goes with the territory. Bale chucked his toys out the pram because he never got the transfer to China. Doubt if Bale is really concerned by the fans who give him stick.
Yeah the scenario with Bamba is unrealistic, I know that, but I was just trying to put it across how we’d feel if one of our players did what Bale did.

I witnessed one of the back room staff grab the flag from the crowd and place it in front of the group of players being photographed, I don't thing he knew what was written on it.

They have a point, would he have done that in his early career

Re: 'Unforgivable!' Furious

He obviously knew what he was doing and it massively disrespectful to the club. But he hasnt exactly been treated that well by the club and fans over there, despite the success he has brought them. Respect goes both ways.

Well sometimes you have to take measures to get results and looks like hes found a way to alienate himself more if that's possible ? Must not forget they wanted him out themselves so carma is a bitch! Watch him go to spurs

Respect works two ways, the way madrid fans have treated him theres no surprise.

Re: 'Unforgivable!' Furious

From what i can gather he didnt know it was on the flag, so all those on here slagging him out probably owe him an apology.

Two other points, they are words of a former Madrid player, not Bales.

Respect goes two ways and he's had very little shown to him in Spain.

I wouldn't have put it in those words but that pretty much sums it up

Gareth Bale, a naturally quiet individual who likes his private life to be exactly that, has taken crap from many Real Madrid, including his own manager

If one of our players was treated like that, I think the more intelligent supporters would understand

Thankfully, it looks like he's out of there in January with ManUre looking favourites; although that might change rapidly with Jose Mourinho taking over the Spurs hotseat

being intelligent does not make you less offended Sven..
and not all Madrid fans do not show respect...its the same as here..
we just lost a manager who had been fantastic for our club yet some of the disrespect and vitriol shown was mind boggling..
we have a forward who when he comes off the bench is treated to a chorus of if he scores we will be on the pitch.. along with loads of SM abuse and one fan giving him a hand gesture on the pitch the day we won promotion...
if either of them stood behind a similar flag there would be meltdown.. and I think you would be offended just like everyone else..
rightfully offended.....it lets down the fans who have not been on his back...and kids who idolise him..

I’m getting sick of this. - how exactly have Cardiff fans treated Warnock with no respect? There hasn’t been chants to get him out, simply boos of disappointment when we lose due to the fact the performances aren’t great, in reality it’s booing the team, not the manager. In regards to wanting Warnock to leave, I think every single Cardiff fan respect Warnock and are gutted he’s gone, but ontop of being sad I myself and many others believe it’s best for our club that he leaves considering the performances and how far adrift we are from playoffs already. I don’t see how any of this shows disrespect to Warnock? I think you’re just reading somebody (possibly me) posting here that I think he should leave as he’s made some awful transfer business recently, ontop of having a squad that doesn’t make sense (I.E replacing a ball playing Defender, with a 6’6 one footed slow giant who occasionally looks good in the air).

Warnock since he’s been at the club and to now has recurved nothing but respect.

In regards to Madine, at the end of the day he hasn’t scored in 2 years for us and he’s played ENOUGH football that he definetely should’ve scored by now, hence the chant. It’s funny, it’s not aggressive and bullying Gary by Smashing his car window, screaming abuse and wanting him to die. That’s what Bale recurved on a daily basis on Madrid, what the hell are you comparing? Our fans are nothing like that.

Real Madrid fans are a bunch of spoilt, self entitled prats who've booed and jeered him for years when he's won them multiple Champions league's and a Copa de Rey yet he still gets abuse from them including getting his car smashed up. Zidane has treated him like shite and hung Bale out to dry multiple times and the media are vile to him so I don't blame him f*ck Madrid.

WALES - GOLF - MADRID

IN THAT ORDER!!!!!

I remember when Tait held that flag up,there was a meltdown on social media,it’s ok for Wales fans to get behind Bales as ultimately we won the game,if wales had lost and Madrid fans held up a controversial flag everyone would have something to say about it.
Fact is Madrid pay his wages,if he wants to give that up then play 10 games a year for Wales on £5000 a game or whatever they get these days,to me it was a tad disrespectful.

Hahaha love it, well done WALES and well done Bale because out of everyone in the team i think Bale really needed this emotional win with Wales because of his time at Madrid. Us Welshmen Are Forever Behind You Gareth And Wish You Return To The Premier League Someday. Because fans of Madrid are disgusting on how they despise Bale, Bale is still an incredible athlete and competitor and no professional should take criticism like the spanish fans do towards him.
