Neil Harris Transfer Plans

Tuesday 19th November 2019

Neil Harris says he needs to assess his squad before getting down to what Cardiff City need to address in the January transfer window.

The new Bluebirds boss faced the media for the first time on Monday, addressing the assembled press pack at Hensol Castle as he got down to work for the first time. You can read all about his press conference here .

And he gave an insight into what he has planned for the January transfer window, with Cardiff currently off the pace in terms of the play-off hunt.

The Bluebirds sit 14th, seven points adrift of the top six. Before looking at the window, Harris said he wanted to run the rule over his new players, while also admitting January will be "key".

NEIL HARRIS:

A bullish Harris said: "First and foremost, we’ve got six weeks until the window opens. I need to assess the players I’ve got.

"I need to assess them and see where we are at with the group. There are things I might want to tinker with and style of play and things like that. The window is key, but January is difficult. All I’ve said to the board is let me assess the players and we will see where we are at.

"(There are) no guarantees with how much money I will have. There are some good players already here."

Harris revealed he was keen to get started, stating it was "a privilege" to be handed the reins at a club like Cardiff. He has been out of work since leaving Millwall earlier this season.

He added: "It's a privilege to be here. A great opportunity. I left Millwall seven weeks ago and recharged the batteries. This is a wonderful job to come into, following Neil (Warnock) who did a fantastic job here. I’ve got a wonderful group of players who have achieved individually and collectively."

Asked what he has been doing in the interim period out of football, he said: " Learning, I've been to a couple of clubs to watch managers and coaches work. I have watched a lot of football in the last 72 to 96 hours as well. Gaining knowledge.

"I wanted to manage. I needed a recess period just to recharge the batteries."

I was less than impressed by his appointment but to be fair to him, he is saying all the right things so far.

The appointment is a cost cutting exercise so don't expect any significant signings only departures. Has all the hallmarks of what happened with the appointment of Slade. Seems to me that Tan wants some of his money back and is eyeing part of the parachute payment to get it.

To be fair Tan has provided plenty of money for new signings. We know he is not going to be throwing stupid money at the club, he has told us what his plans are and has been true to his word so far. I am sure that any sensible request that fits in with his long term vision would be considered.

Would love it if tan give harris a war chest. Harris could have an eye for real quality for all we know and given money could work wonders because he finished 8th with millwall first season in the championship after promotion without spending hardly anything
