Harris: "No guarantees with how much money I will have"

NEIL HARRIS:

January window?

"First and foremost, we’ve got six weeks until the window opens. I need to assess the players I’ve got. I need to assess them and see where we are at with the group. There are things I might want to tinker with and style of play and things like that. The window is key, but January is difficult. All I’ve said to the board is let me assess the players and we will see where we are at."

"No guarantees with how much money I will have. There are some good players already here."

What we just learned about Neil Harris' January transfer plans at Cardiff City

The new boss spoke to the media at his unveiling at Hensol Castle on Monday

Neil Harris says he needs to assess his squad before getting down to what Cardiff City need to address in the January transfer window.

The new Bluebirds boss faced the media for the first time on Monday, addressing the assembled press pack at Hensol Castle as he got down to work for the first time. You can read all about his press conference here .

And he gave an insight into what he has planned for the January transfer window, with Cardiff currently off the pace in terms of the play-off hunt.

The Bluebirds sit 14th, seven points adrift of the top six. Before looking at the window, Harris said he wanted to run the rule over his new players, while also admitting January will be "key".

A bullish Harris said: "First and foremost, we’ve got six weeks until the window opens. I need to assess the players I’ve got.

"I need to assess them and see where we are at with the group. There are things I might want to tinker with and style of play and things like that. The window is key, but January is difficult. All I’ve said to the board is let me assess the players and we will see where we are at.

"(There are) no guarantees with how much money I will have. There are some good players already here ."

Harris revealed he was keen to get started, stating it was "a privilege" to be handed the reins at a club like Cardiff. He has been out of work since leaving Millwall earlier this season.

He added: "It's a privilege to be here. A great opportunity. I left Millwall seven weeks ago and recharged the batteries. This is a wonderful job to come into, following Neil (Warnock) who did a fantastic job here. I’ve got a wonderful group of players who have achieved individually and collectively."

Asked what he has been doing in the interim period out of football, he said: " Learning, I've been to a couple of clubs to watch managers and coaches work. I have watched a lot of football in the last 72 to 96 hours as well. Gaining knowledge.

"I wanted to manage. I needed a recess period just to recharge the batteries."

That’s probably why he got the job.

He probably won't need much as he's inherited a bloated squad and has plenty of room for some "wheeler dealing"

Well, Madine’s probably lost half a yard of pace since signing..

What happened to the mantra we are going to give a bl..dy good go at getting straight back to the prem with this squad?

He's right though. Before bringing in players he needs to assess what players he wants to keep and who he wants to let go and there might be players in the under 23's that he thinks can make the step up into a position that he wants.

I think he did mention the play offs

He'll probably be told that he can spend whatever he can generate in sales during the window.

And seeing as there appears to have been little or no interest in any of our players (certainly none from any Premier League club) then he's going to be looking at a budget of sweet fa.

I really struggle with what some city fans want?

1. Do you want him to publicly say "i think some of the players here are crap and I'll be looking to buy in January" or do you not prefer his "I'll assess what we have"?

2. Do you want him to publicly say "I've got £30million to spend, thereby alerting agents and club owners, January players are already over inflated prices, if they know we have a wedge prices will go up again.

I should hope not, we need to sell before we buy that's for sure.

Correct this squad isn't bloated. Every team has dead wood.
