Report: Tony Pulis rejected Cardiff, thinks he can join Southampton or West Ham
Olly Dawes - Sun 10 Nov

Tony Pulis is reportedly eyeing up jobs at Southampton or West Ham United.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Tony Pulis has snubbed the chance to manage Cardiff City, with his eyes on Southampton and West Ham United.

Pulis, 61, failed to guide Middlesbrough into the Championship play-offs last season, and Boro decided to part ways with the former West Brom boss.

His style of play can be justified when winning, but with Boro missing their top six target, it wasn't a particularly difficult decision to cut ties.

Pulis hasn't returned to the game since his exit in May, and it's now claimed that he snubbed a return home to Wales when Cardiff City wanted him to replace Neil Warnock.

Pulis allegedly isn't interested in a move to another Championship club, and instead thinks he can land a Premier League job at either Southampton or West Ham.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is attempting to cling onto his job after some poor results, including the 9-0 home loss to Leicester City, whilst West Ham have claimed just two points in the last six games, meaning Manuel Pellegrini is under pressure.

Manuel Pellegrini manager of Manchester City shake hands with Tony Pulis manager of West Bromwich Albion prior to the Barclays Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and...

Pulis could target one of the jobs as a fire-fighter type manager, attempting to keep the clubs in the Premier League as he did with West Brom, but it still seems hugely unlikely.

He didn't exactly impress in the Championship last season, so walking into a Premier League job seems ambitious, especially having been out of the top flight for two years now.

True or not? :?

If so, it would explain a few things (like why the early 'dead cert' favourite took a few days to confirm)

Lucky escape or opportunity missed?

The latter for me but time will tell? :(

He did a poor job at Middlesborough who were expected to at least make the playoffs last season. Think he is one of those managers who has passed his sell by date. Can't see him getting a premier league club and plenty of championship clubs would pass on him too.

Pulis did not reject Cardiff City.

This is what I said in a post people assume pulis ect would jump at chance at city but in reality they're looking at premier club of which several managers are on the brink this season! And if you look at it Houghton and others didn't tout themselves for our vacancy did they? So think some on here were wrong to think club didnt approach certain managers about vacancy. :old:

Middlesbrough made the playoffs last season, they came fifth in the Championship and lost 1-0 to play off winners Aston Villa?
Does anyone think we’ll get to the playoffs this season as Warnock promised? Middlesbrough sacked Pulis for failing to get them promoted and they’re now in the bottom three!

Be interesting to see where Warnock promised we would get to the play offs. Not saying he didn't but be good to see when this happened as I missed it.

I find it hard to believe, I cant see him turning down the opportunity to manage us.

I find it even harder to believe we actually asked him

This smacks of the club putting out stories trying to make it look like they tried for bigger names because they know the Harris decision has gone down badly

I think Pullis would have had a mixed reaction I personally would have liked Pullis here. But I don't think Cardiff even went for Pulis its all bullshit

More likely that he priced himself out, not sure what his package was at Borough, but I’m guessing that it was the top end of the scale for a Championship club. Would also want big bucks available for transfers too.

I’m not to disappointed with that he wasn’t appointed myself.

When people mention Houghton, I’m assuming they’re talking about Chris Hughton, unless Roy Houghton is considering leaving Palace?

Pulis' agent floating his name in the press. Just getting a bit of free publicity just as some of the struggling prem teams are considering sacking their manager.

This story didnt happen, just his agent ding what he's paid to do.

Sorry, but this whole "hounded out " line is nonsense, watched a youtube clip from talks port yesterday, don't remember actual reporters name, anyway, they were down with palace u23,and he spoke to neil, and said something wasn't right about neil, not his usual self he said, also neil said the next few games are crucial :?: this before the swansea & bristol games,my personal belief is,he was told his neck was on the line,we didn't perform in each "derby" and the trap door was looming :?: perhaps the non payment of the sala fee was an issue for him,as a person :?: we will only know the truth, when he publishes a book, and he can speak openly, without fear of retribution, all just opinions of course.still glad we didn't end up with pulis, some just wanted him cos "he's welsh". :old: :bluebird:

there were clearly a number of factors, there always is...but was there a Warnock out campaign ?...was it aggressive ? was he visibly shocked at the booing ? had he said if it started to sour he would leave ? did he love the idea that he had a special bond with our fans ? was it souring ?
of course they don't read SM.. but you only need to look at Harris unveiling to figure out they do.
whats nonsense is those who if they did not hound him out...certainly tried to...now looking the other way pretending they did not..
