A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff city is located in a football wasteland namely the wales and west country region. Count the various seasons each club has played at league level then the number of top flight seasons each club has accumulated.
I make it us 17 jacks 9 worzels 7
The rest 0 .so wether Harris suceeds or fails he's basically coming to an area where bumping along in the second tier is viewed an achievement.

well if people are failing to realise it, its not for the want of it being said..
lots of our previous managers and Swanseas have commented on difficulty signing players due to location of clubs...
Camarasa wouldn't have come last year if not for his wife/GF

I met Hibbitt and Osman after a FA Cup game against Gillingham way back and they said that due to Cardiffs location, it was difficult to get players to sign for the club.
Personally I dont get that mentality at all as surely Cardiff is a great place to live and easy access to anywhere in the UK

its a great City mate , but you have to live here to know that..
not sure about the easy access bit...every year someone will put a millage chart up of how many miles fans have to travel...we are always in the top 2 or 3 for miles travelled..

It is; and players have moved to worse places to further their careers (Sunderland, Bolton, Wigan, Stoke and Swansea all spring to mind

My point was in the main the whole region has failed .Our history is poor but its the best of all the clubs in the area.

As I have said on here before, a former chairman of our club was one of my best mates, and he told me how difficult it was getting players to move down here. Easy to identify a target, easy to know if the club can afford him, not so easy to persuade him to come here even though some of our fans think we are Barcelona and buying a player is like buying a loaf of bread from Asda.

To balance this.
It would be interesting to
Know how many top level players
Or internationals have come from
South Wales,, West Country during
The same period.
Ie, up to two hours from Cardiff.
What you may find is loads
Have stepped through, around, under or over Our teams to go to more ambitious
Or bigger clubs.
If the club is up there,, then players will come.
Cardiff had this golden chance
When we reached Premier league.
An opportunity to finally break in to the top level and hopefully stay a while and grow
The clubs image and support.
We fcked it up. As we are a club without ambition.
A billionaire who just wants to cash out.
Management choices lacking vision.
A team with no style or format.....
(well actually we now have a format
which is hoofball. A blueprint for mediocre)

Your living in the 90s
Players these days follow the money most couldn't care about location that is why loads are ending up in the middle east or China

If you think a young player will choose us over a London club or one of the other big city clubs if wages are all on a par, you are living in cloud cuckoo land. The only way we will attract a player if several clubs are after him is by offering a far higher salary, and with Tan looking to make us debt free that is highly unlikely.

yes they have, as some have come here ,and no doubt many have been pleasantly surprised.. doesn't alter the fact its a difficult one to sell.. its been said too many times to not be true..
its easy us saying why not sign this or that player. but a different kettle of fish getting them to go somewhere they do not fancy..

One of the fastest growing cities in the UK I believe
What I meant by easy access is a motorway to anywhere in the UK and an airport if you want to fly anywhere in the world via a connecting flight

But the region is weak in a football sense our golden era 1920s and a mini one in the 50s .worzels 76 to 80 and the jacks just had theirs the rest of the clubs never been in the top division
Mon Nov 18, 2019 10:10 am
We had problems attracting players in the 80s 90s when we were in lower division Players from around Manchester / Birmingham / London could all change clubs without moving families and relocating In the Premiership we would not have a problem attracting players but it just the level of players we can attract due to our not being in the premiership for long and being favs to be relegated each time

Big diff now to 20 years ago. Is London even that appealing anymore?

as I said its been said too many times to not be true....and..some players here now do not live here..

Cardiff should be an easy sell.
Granted there are football heartlands in London, Midlands and Lancashire but Cardiff compares phenomenally well with everywhere else.
FFS Middlesbrough, Norwich, Sheffield, Derby, Burnley. Southampton always ranks as a shit hole too.
Cardiff is easily sold and people who get here think it's fantastic.
If Dalman and Choo chose to live here themselves maybe it would be easier to sell to recruits. If they can't, I'm sure people on here would manage it. Different story when Hibbit was here and his opinion frankly counts for nothing. Cardiff is on the map and in no way should be a stumbling block for recruiting these days.

Bristol City has been in it for 9 years the same as Jacks not 7 I guess you could also throw Swindons one season in if you wanted too. But yes a very unerachiving area of the country particulary a city like Bristol having never even won a FA cup let alone a league title.
