Neil Harris - A Millwall view.

Thu Nov 14, 2019 9:31 pm

Messaged a mate of mine today, long time Millwall season ticket holder told him about Harris as a front runner for the managers job.
The below is his reply word for word.

"Relegation for you boys then. I was glad to see him go as were many others as he’s clueless!"

And this is coming from a club who supposedly viewed him as a club legend.

Read similar from other Millwall fans. It’s not just that guys opinion. And fans normally defend and go easy on their own guys. I just want to know the reasons for our interest in him, because without wanting to slaughter the guy without giving him a chance, I can’t find any at all, and I have spent all evening reading about his short managerial career so far.

A manager who got to playoff final then followed it up with promotion and kept them in championship! Fickle as our fans :old:

It would be such a painful appointment. I hope not. Would rather Hughes because of the welsh connection.

I think Chris Hughton would be my appointment. Very experienced at this level. I think that’s what we need at the moment, someone established at this level.

his record there is very decent..2 play off finals winning one losing other...2 FA cup quarter finals. .and finished 8th 1sy year in championship...not so good last year but they were one of the favs to go down..
if people see gareth ainsworth or people with zero managerial experience as good shouts why not this fella ?

wouldn't be my choice but making a case for him..

That's true wouldn't be my choice either but his record is fairly good for the budget and he will have learned a lot in that time.

I think it is his style of football that is the issue, not his experience. Warnock left because the results and performances weren't good enough and the fans weren't happy watching his football. We might see performances improve initially, which often happens when a new manager comes in, but are things going to change that much under Harris? We could potentially see similar football and results just under a new manager. This was a perfect opportunity for the club to lay the foundations to transition to a more attacking style of play. Dalmans interview suggested that as well. Appointing Harris seems like we would just be replacing a manager who plays long ball football with a manager who also plays long ball football, just with less experience.

if your Millwall manager and up against teams with superior squads you have to find a way..?
ive always thought the negative tag harsh on prem managers of teams that if they go toe to toe with top half teams they would just be inviting a hammering..
maybe with a better squad ,which we have, and some money we might not be millwall plus..?

This is the championship, not the premier league. Anyone can beat anyone on their day and there are much smaller clubs with inferior squads who don't play long ball tactics and are doing fine. If the club are serious about being a more attacking team then the obvious choice would be to bring in a manager who plays that way.

I know its not the prem but its not reserve division 5 parks football either.. infact even at parks level managers with poor squads will look for a way if playing a better team.. whatever that way is.

I know tactics are changed depending on the opposition. But there isnt a massive difference in standards between the teams in the championship like there is in the prem where the top 6-8 teams dominate. Which is why the championship is one of the most competitive leagues in football. Brentford play good attacking football but have an inferior squad to WBA and Leeds. They wouldn't suddenly play long ball tactics when they play them. They might be more cautious going forward but they wouldn't completely switch their style of play. A manager will have his team train and play a certain way and will tweak things depending on the opposition. I'll be pleasantly surprised but I can't see Harris coming here and drastically changing the way he coaches us to how he coached his Millwall team.
