The ambition of the club

Tue Nov 12, 2019 6:53 pm

The next manager appointment is going to give a clear indication of the club's ambition going forward and for that reason will be fascinating.

If the club genuinely wants to progress and to make a concerted attempt at promotion this season or next then they need to be looking to appoint a manager of the ilk of Jokanovic, David Moyes, Alex Neil or even David Wagner although I accept that it could be difficult persuading those in jobs at the moment to leave that is the calibre of manager we need to be looking at.

If the club wants to consolidate and make sure that relegation is not a worry and perhaps get the odd tilt at the play offs but generally be happy with staying in the Championship then they should be looking at the likes of Hughton, Pulis, Bowyer etc.

If they want to save as much money as possible and keep their fingers crossed and say plenty of prayers that the club can somehow manage to avoid relegation for as long as it takes Tan to clear as much of the debt as he can and sell the club then we are likely to see an appointment such as Harris, Flynn or Nathan Jones.

The next appointment will be very revealing as to the ambition of the owner and the board.

We know what Tan's ambitions are. He has told us. He wants the club to be debt free and run within it's means. Can't really blame him. He was not exactly desperate to come here, the club were desperate for him to come here and bail us out before we ended up in administration or worse. I have said from day one, he is a businessman with no ties to this part of the world and did not become rich by taking reckless gambles. He will do whatever he thinks best to achieve his goal, and whether that includes spending big in the hope of getting back to the PL remains to be seen. Personally, I think whoever takes over will be working to a very limited budget.

I would love the club to be self sufficient, still plenty of work to be done but seems possible thanks to Tan.

A Manager whose players can pass the ball to one another would be a start..

Forget about Jokanovic etc.. he would want a budget.

Re: The ambition of the club

We are never going to get a big manager in with the team we presently have, but if we did it would create a buzz and increase the gate reciepts and anticipation from fans would be sky high, sky sports would go into meltdown at a big appointment,
but back to reality it's league 1 manager from newport with no contacts out of south wales or a x millwall manager to get us back to the prem this season.

There are young Managers out there with good ideas. We just never invite them for interview.

A fair assessment though it cuts both ways.Any manager worth his salt we want to know the boards position come the next window. They did say to Warnock money was available in the next window so that might appeal to someone like Bowyer who hasn't got a pot to piss in at Charlton.

It’s obvious the club has no ambition.

Shipped out all our best players replaced them with cheap crap.

Let the best manager we’ve had for years walk away replacing him with cheap crap.

The only history I can see being made this season is Swansea doing the league double over us.

Embarrassing how we’ve ended up in free fall.

to be self sufficient I think you have to be in the prem or accept bottom half mediocrity at best , take away the parachute payments and we are miles off. besides its only a temporary thing as the minute Tan leaves it starts again..

I'm not really interested in the promised land. Just want a a top 6 challenge every season with a few goals going in every other week. What's David Jones upto???

its only Ken that he actually shipped out..well and Kadeem who never played.
Manga was begged to stay but was determined to go home. Gunners contract was up and did not want to play another championship season. Reid manufactured a move last minute. the 3 loans all went back to their clubs. and Sol was long term injured..

automatic was a really tall order with all that going on. was a 2 year fix as with so many relegated teams but many seemed to think it was an Elastoplast.
yes he walked. he said he would from day 1 ,the minute it started to sour. and sour it did.

If it is Harris, whilst i applaud bringing in someone relatively young, I decry the lack of ambition.

Warnock IMO would have had a say in offering up a name and so it’d be unsurprising if he proposed someone in his vein and as Rob Philipps said yesterday Harris would be “evolution not revolution.”

A distinct lack of ambition if it is Harris.

Then rob Phillips needs a grasp of the dictionary

How is evolution not moving forward lol

Grasp of the dictionary isn’t part of the job description at BBC Wales..

There was an old phrase about the illusion of communication, and whether it actually ever takes place.

i think it refers to evolution being a slow process of many small changes over a long period of time as opposed to an immidiate overhaul...

That’s what I understood him to be saying.
