Sol Bamba feels the squad has let down Neil Warnock after his Cardiff City exit

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba believes the squad has let down former manager Neil Warnock

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba believes the squad has let down Neil Warnock after his exit from the club, adding his view that there was a better chance of securing promotion without a managerial change.

The Bluebirds confirmed Warnock's departure after three-years with the club on Monday by mutual consent, following the 1-0 defeat to Bristol City on Sunday.

That result leaves Cardiff 14th in the table heading into the final international break of the year and with a significant margin to make up if they are to reach the play-offs.

However, Bamba believes that the best chance of fighting for an immediate return to the Premier League would have been with Warnock still in charge, explaining that he felt the squad had let down the 70-year-old.

“It was always going to be difficult when we come down from the Premier League but I think that with the squad that we have got and the budget that we have got in the league as well, we should be doing much better than that,” he told BBC Radio 5Live.

“Obviously the Championship is very unpredictable, it’s never easy, but with the squad that we’ve got we should be doing better so I feel like we've let him down and everyone in the dressing room knows we should have done better.

“There’s still a long way to go and we feel like we could have turned a corner with the gaffer. Unfortunately, it’s not meant to be.”

Asked by former Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton if he felt there was a stronger chance of securing promotion or a top-six finish with Warnock at the helm, Bamba added:

“Definitely, I do think so. It’s been proven in 40 years of management what he is capable of doing, he’s had nine promotions, so he’s been there before. It’s definitely premature for me but obviously it’s a results business.

“The owner has put in a lot of money, so he doesn’t want to look at the table and see we’re 14th in the league so that’s why he’s made that decision but for us, as a group and as a team, it was definitely premature.”

The team have let him down. Sloppy defending and some very poor finishing have cost us so many points. Certain players look like they dont want to be here either. The man is a legend but it was definitely time for change.

Far from being "in the Know" about what has gone on down the city lately ? Players Fault ?, Managers Fault ? I'm just a long standing CARDIFF CITY Supporter.

No Doubt that Warnock has been Excellent for our club over the past few seasons and has worked wonders.

BUT, I have to say that this season some of his decisions, appointments, announcements, tactics, etc Have seemed a bit strange? (Example) announcing that he was leaving at the end of this season.

As others on here have stated - we don't mind loosing games but it is the manner in which you loose. And yes sometimes the players do not look interested, their football is crap with schoolboy errors and we as fans do not like all this negative style hoofball and that has to be down to tactics and playing patterns, which in turn have to be managerial/coaching decisions.

I praise warnock for what he has achieved here but Definitely time for a change in manager, positivity and move forward with the right manager for players and fans together.

The last three or four transfer windows have been little short of disastrous, compound by the fact that one or two players who are continually sick and injured, were given extended contracts, it’s not difficult to see what the end result was going to be.

I’d also like to know how a certain agent had his two sons playing in the youth setup. Who actually sanctioned this in the first place?

Yeah They Have, OK They Have Tried There Best In The Home Matches But With Big Derbies Like Swansea AND Bristol You Have To Show Fans That You Are Not Giving Up Without A Fight And At The End They Have Let Fans Down And More Importantly Warnock.

Warnock Always Said That We Should Off Picked Up Points Away But Due To Poor Defending This Has Not Happened.
It Could Be The Fact That Warnock Was Leaving Regardless Of What Happens This Season So Players Have Not Done There Best, Whatever It Was It Has Not Been The Same As Our Promoted Season, And Sadly Matches Home And Away Will Not Be The Same Without Neil Warnock Barking Orders At Our Players AND Referees.
