‘ Bristol City crowd ‘

Thu Nov 07, 2019 1:54 am

I know it's a crap Sunday morning KO and live on sky but why aren't more tickets sold?

Talk on here previously of this and Swansea needing the red seats open but no where near. Wurzels sold their allocation and wanting more which we haven't given them.

Be lucky if we get 24k at this rate, minus all the no shows if we want to consider the real attendance.

Other than the Canton Corners abd the front rows of the Grandstand (which are massively overpriced at £36 with the booking fee by the way) sales look healthy to me. Looking at a 25/26,000 crowd which is what I would expect for 12 Sunday on Sky.

If it had been on the Saturday 3pm or 5.25 we would have had 28-30,000.

We have come a long way. To even talk about these sorts of numbers in the second tier is phenomenal in my opinion.

Ps, don't be fooled by the blue either, some of those blocks only have a few odd seats in them dotted around.

I hope youre right RV. Some of those blocks still have hundreds mind. Long way off pressure to open up red seats though. I agree £36 won't be helping.

come a long long way... didn't average 20k between 1970/71 and 2008/09 with it dipping below 3k at one point..
began to wonder if we would ever average 20k again...

This is what I'm always banging on about .so many come on here moaning about modern football but its watched by record breaking crowds.when I started going to watch city in the "good old days" of the 1970s crowds were low then collapsed completely in the 80s/90s.

Re: Bristol City crowd

Not moaning, expressing surprise and a little disappointment. We are fairly remote in comparison to Midlands, Yorkshire and Lancashire or London cluster. After Swansea, its out local derby. I know its a crap time slot and on tv but for a similar fixture the likes of Forrest, Derby, Leeds wouldn't have a ticket left. And they've not been near PL for years. And the last home game was a thriller. Is it cost, is it kick off time, is it brand of football? Probably a combo of all plus other factors too.

tradition and history come into it. during my time following Cardiff each of the 3 mentioned clubs have won the league and reached at least the semi final of the European cup / champions league. and none of the 3 have played in the bottom tier let alone managed 4 separate visits there...I think its remarkable we have made up so much ground tbh..

Exactly also those clubs have had Derby 65 top flight seasons forest 56 and Leeds 50 .us 2 since 1962 both a disaster.

That definitely has merit. Though in Derbys case it has now been a very very long time. Most of our younger fan base wouldnt know much of Forrest or Derbys successes.

well blokes my age were taking their kids to watch a top half top tier side watched by 30k in the late 90s while my kids were being treated to Kenny hibbits team with the likes of jimmy rollo and Peter Zois in the bottom tier playing to crowds of 3k...
we lost generations of fathers taking their sons, or just young boys going with mates..so much easier to be a man utd or Liverpool fan..

Correct.the majority of clubs with big fan bases have spent most of their time either recently or historically in the top division.
They are also the clubs who have lifted the most trophies.

If its connected to lifting trophies there will only be half a dozen teams to support soon. Between them Derby, Forrest and Leeds have one PL title and nothing else for forty years. Does the Welsh cup not count!!!!!!

I get the points made but its still a reality check that there is no pressure whatsoever for that top tier to open. I hate looking at those bloody r*d seats.

Each of those blocks highlighted doesn't necessarily mean that there's loads of seats left in each

Always loved the Bristol City game and now remember it fondly as the fixture where Warnock made his managerial debut ( plus Hoillet and Bamba!).

Unfortunately have to miss this one as I’m away on holiday in the US and Sunday’s match kicks off at 4.00am Pacific Coast Time. Hoping to wake up for breakfast with a Bluebirds win already happened! :bluebird: :bluescarf:

Have to agree with you,but I will say,my dad was the one who influenced,me regarding saying loyal to your hometown club,he never understood my youngest brother saying he "supported" Liverpool, my old man's response was classic " yeah, from your f@cking armchair" :old: :bluebird:

If I remember correctly weren't it just 20k last time we played bristol City home?
That was also a midday Sunday KO in March 2018.
Over 25k for Sunday is very good cos is not a big rivalry, just a rivalry.
Our fairweather fans are not guaranteed to want to turn out this fixture.
