Victor Camarasa's curious Crystal Palace situation and Cardiff City's chances of actually making an approach

It is sad to see Victor Camarasa's current plight at Crystal Palace, especially given how much he was adored at Cardiff City last season.
The Spaniard sealed a season-long loan move to Selhurst Park this season but has played just one league game so far, culminating in five minutes of Premier League football.
It has seen many Bluebirds call for him to come back to South Wales in January - and it is a position Neil Warnock has said Cardiff could be looking at.
Following the deadline-day exit of Bobby Reid to Fulham, Warnock has been forced to rely heavily on Lee Tomlin to provide that creative spark, but the playmaker's fitness has limited his game-time.
Warnock said Tomlin's involvement over the next two months could decide whether Cardiff enter the market for a playmaker and, if they do, Camarasa appears a perfect fit.
Here, we look at what has been said, what needs to happen and how likely a Camarasa return actually is.
WHAT CRYSTAL PALACE BOSS ROY HODGSON HAS SAID
September 20 : "To be honest we are quite blessed in that department, the type of player that Victor is, that is one of the areas of strength in terms of numbers.
"I have got no criticism of him in anyway whatsoever, he is a very good professional who trains very hard.
"He is, obviously, a very skilful and technical player but then of course he is in a group of very technical and skilful players, so it has not been easy for him to just walk in here and knock people off their pedestal."
October 25 : "He is competing for places in what we regard as an area where we are blessed with players.
"All he can do is continue working and trying very hard to make us think we would be better off with him than one of the other players currently playing there."
Over a month between those two quotes and, on the surface, it looks as though there is very little light at the end of the tunnel.
THE CRYSTAL PALACE VIEW
Scott Trotter, from football.london, says the Spaniard's situation is a strange one.
"I think that's where the main difficulty lies to be honest, Hodgson just doesn't seem to fancy him compared to his other options. James McCarthy, Luka Milivojevic and Cheikh Kouyate are undoubtedly his preferred trio and are perhaps more industrious than flashy, and even Jefrrey Schlupp started in the middle at the weekend against Leicester. McCarthy would seem to be the obvious answer to replacing McArthur who went off with a back injury at the weekend.
"Camarasa appears in a similar situation to Max Meyer, who arrived to much acclaim last season, and the German has struggled to make a meaningful impression despite his classy moments and it's easy to forget that Jairo Riedewald is at the club. Palace have had similar unsuccessful loan moves in the past like Erdal Rakip who joined in January 2018 and didn't feature at all.
"Transfers are more lead by Dougie Freedman and Steve Parish, and Hodgson has admitted that frugality certainly plays a role. Seems very unlikely they will exercise the option at this rate, but are unlikely to want to pay any fine to cancel it in January."
IS A LOAN ACTUALLY POSSIBLE?
A little over a week ago, Sportslens reported that Camarasa was set to cut his loan spell at Palace short, hoping for the Eagles and his parent club Real Betis to terminate the contract by mutual agreement.
They report that Camarasa is unhappy with his situation at Palace and is seeking a means by which he can end his time there.
However, if Cardiff are to pull off a loan for Camarasa, they will hope the contract isn't terminated - and here's why.
Any loan that is a year or more is registered by FIFA as a permanent transfer. Therefore it would be far easier for Palace to loan him to Cardiff until the end of the season, which is entirely within the rules. Almost like subletting a flat.
It is as yet unknown, however, whether the player would countenance a move back to the Welsh capital or whether Cardiff are preparing to bring him back.
On the surface, however, it seems like a brilliant move for all parties.

I don't see the logic in him coming to us in the championship, it won't help raise his stock to Betis especially the way we are playing.
Just don't see it happening.

same here.
I don't see how its easier loaning him from Palace either tbh..all these things { registrations and cancelations } are done electronically these days even at parks football level , takes minutes.

Not playing at all is hardly doing his stock any good either though. Not that I see it happening anyway.

No he might go somewhere else, just don't see him coming here. His stock would probably stay higher not playing than of he came here and struggled.

The quality type player we were promised in the summer.
Loved every minute watching Victor last season way to good for our side so can’t see it happening.

agree. the championship isn't for everyone and would therefore be a big risk.

He's wasted down there.
Would love to have him back and it’s totally possible.
Better players than him have played in this league.

We should go all out to get him back

Does it say anything about our standards that he is no where near good enough for Palace and Real Betis but if he played for us would be our best player?

A number of factors could affect a players form.
Maybe the owner wanted him but the manager didn't
Formation
Play style
Managers
Team mates
living area
What we do know is he enjoyed his time here with us and it showed on the pitch.

Just because Hodgson hasn't taken a shine to him doesn't mean he isn't "no where near good enough" for palace. It happens at a lot of clubs. Its like saying Kadeem Harris was no where near good enough for us last season, many would disagree but its down to the managers.
