The Cardiff City star seeking Bristol City redemption following a moment of madness and a grovelling text message apology

Omar Bogle's red card dominated the headlines after Cardiff City's defeat to Bristol City two years ago

The Bluebirds welcome the Robins to Cardiff City Stadium for the Severnside derby this Sunday

This Sunday's Severnside derby has a bit of everything: A lot of needle, a lot of history and a lot at stake.

But for one man, this fixture will mean that little bit more.

For Omar Bogle, the clash against the Robins will rekindle one poignant memory, one which has ultimately shaped his Cardiff City career to date.

Two years ago, Bogle was a striker on the rise. He was introduced into the team after sealing a move from Wigan Athletic and, then 24, it looked like the Bluebirds had a potential star in the making. One of Neil Warnock's unearthed diamonds.

Then, just a few short months later, he was sent off against the Robins for a horrible lunge and was lambasted by the manager afterwards, claiming that incident cost City the game.

“I can’t say anything good about Bogle because that’s cost us the game,” Warnock said after that match.

“If you want me to say anything good about his performance, it’s a waste of time. Why play well and score and then go and get sent off? Cost your team the game.”

Bogle revealed he sent a grovelling apology to Warnock via text, but there is a feeling the manager never truly forgave him and found it difficult to place his trust in the player fully thereafter.

But, when Bogle's Bluebirds career appeared to be over this summer, he enjoyed something of an unlikely renaissance.

His pre-season form was electric and, after scoring in the opening-day defeat at Wigan, he looked to have completed an incredible turnaround out of nowhere, slowly winning back both the fans and, importantly, the manager.

"If you told me Omar Bogle would be in our team this season, I would have said no chance," Warnock said in September.

"But his attitude has changed, which it had to do, and he is an important part now.

"So never say never in football."

That last part is the important bit.

Fate in football can align itself in strange ways and this Sunday, with Robert Glatzel and Isaac Vassell injured and Danny Ward suspended, Bogle, in all likelihood, will lead the line for the Bluebirds.

It is a golden opportunity for him to banish the demons of 2017 once and for all and prove to Warnock and the Cardiff City faithful that his potential can still be fulfilled.

If his attitude really has changed, this is the game in which he must shoulder the responsibility and produce.

It is a chance for him to ensure that incident at Ashton Gate, which curiously occurred two years ago yesterday, will not define his Bluebirds career.

Funny to see Bobby Reid and Flint helping him on his way off in that picture!

And I may be wrong but wasn't the tackle he was sent of for on Marlon Pack?

With Glatzel, vassel and ward out this is a perfect opportunity for him to redeem himself. 3-1 win and he gets a brace. :bluescarf:

- Reality, warnock will probably start Patterson and we’ll lose 2-1.

Is the story here not how Sir Neil holds grudges?

If we'd not beaten Birmingham it would no doubt have been Wards fault. As it was the ten men played better than eleven have been doing as an effort was made to pass to a team mate.

not sure why the text message he sent is in the title as it happened 2 years ago..

as for holding grudges..i read this a lot. but isn't part of his job to pick a team based on a number of things ..including attitude.

It is. But another part of his job is to utilise the resources at his disposal and osrticusing players in the aftermath of their actions is counter productive. We are not at close enough quarters to know but there are too many players who go off radar to be coincidence. Zahore, Madine, Tomlin, Bogle until very recently. Is it coincidence they are all strikers? Bobby Reid too had very curious game time last season and obviously didn't relish club life here either. We are not in the position where resources can be squandered.

think its the case at most clubs. you can only play 11 and if everyone is fit and healthy that 11 will be chosen from about 14.. upset the manager / lack effort or have a poor attitude and you drop further down the order in the 30 or so pro,s .. and its not like Bogle was in that 14 to start with ?
don't think he is that close now either but for the injuries/ ban
hardly anyone rotates in depth as no body has depth in quality other than the Man Citys of the world.
