Obviously i've missed out our temporary managers and burrows as he was only here for the 1st month of the century

That's hard. Clearly there's only 3 contenders. Jones taking us to a FA Cup Final is still simply amazing. Malkie nearly beating one of the worlds top teams to win the League Cup and to a lesser extent taking a relatively strong side to the prem. Warnock achieving an absolute miracle taking that team up against the odds 2 years ago. Myself I wont chose between them, they all enhanced my lifetime of watching Cardiff City.

Agree its such a tough choice. I went for Malky just based on what he achieved AND the way we played while we did it! Jones had the style (especially 09-10) and warnock did the impossible without entertaining us a great deal. Malky managed to do both (albeit with a bigger budget)

DJ by a mile. no contest,

The signings he brought to the club, bringing King Koumas and Bellamy in, Ramsey back on loan, Bothroyd McCormack, Chopra, Whitt’s, Kev, McPhail and so many more really good players to watch. the football was exciting, heart in mouth, he understood the Welshness, the Derby, got us to a FA Cup Final !!!!! 2 Playoff semis and a final. Made mistakes, but spent far less money than Malky , Ole and Neil.

He entertained and came so close to silverware doing it. With a distracting background of a ground change, taxman and financial issues, a change of owner. But the football was really good to watch. Oh for some of that now!!!!!

Malky second.

Neil third

DJ for me, by a mile.

DJ came in when we were financially close to ruin, being forced to sign free's, loans and cheap players. and then sell off our better players at the end of each season. he had us playing good football, albeit with no plan b. if he had won us promotion, he would of been hailed as our greatest.

Malky second for me, he came in, rebuild a squad and won promotion, we looked like a solid defensive unit, which would nick a goal, and hold on to it. i felt under him we would of survived the premier league.

Neil third for me, neil's greatest achievement was bringing the fans back together. this whole notion that he did the impossible with promotion always leaves me stumped. during that season, annis kept posting the same thing about how hes had a shoe string budget and not spend near what anyone else spent. whilst that was true in regards to a transfer budget, the players he did sign on free's had big wages, and deservedly so. we've never actually looked like a decent side under him though, and we play the exact same way as we did during our promotion season, the only difference is, teams are now hitting the back of the net, when last time round, they missed the target.

Voted Neil even though I think it’s time he moved on. As a club we could’ve completely fallen down the leagues if he had not come in and then to get up promoted in the second season was just amazing.

I do think this has been one season too long though especially having come public with his intention to retire

Best football was under Dave Jones easily. Not sure what he was like behind the scenes, but his football style won us plenty of admirers.Warnock's football is so predictable and dire. :bluebird:

a photo finish between DJ and NW for me.. and Neil by a whisker..because he took over a real mess mid season { which he doesn't get nearly enough credit for } and he won a promotion..
Malky im afraid..wow...1 shot a game..short memories the football was mega shite even compared to sunday

Gone with the same, Dave Jones, Malky, Warnock.

Sir Neil Warnock, no doubt about it, the misery would be second, fair play he also did an excellent job, and Malky was decent too

Doesnt Jimmy scoular count from 60/70s? :o
Whilst never won anything his achievements in Europe as a 2nd div club is unprecedented for second tier club anywhere in Europe ever!

Jones or Warnock.

To close to call for me, can't split them, both achieved so much in different ways

its this century mate..
but along with a couple of good cup results and 1 near miss there were many absolutely dreadful seasons..

Went for Warnock because he helped unite the club after the red shirt fiasco, and took us from near the bottom of the Championship to the top flight. If I was picking someone purely based on how attractive our football was, I would have to go for Mr Grumpy.

I voted Warnock over DJ by a whisker...

must say I have no idea why DJ was given his marching orders...and neither do the majority of fans I talk to.

Couple maybe but the teams we beat were top class equivalent to top champions league teams today and us bringing championship at time.... is winning one promotion a reason for greatness not really.

2 clear ones for me, Dave Jones and Neil Warnock.

Always liked DJ but was in the minority at the time but think he went at the right time and he never got us up.

So for that reason it's Warnock for me, thought he was brilliant promotion season and did well premier league season in what was a rough season off the pitch.

I was looking at it over all Allan in 2 of his first 3 seasons we finished 20th twice out of 22 and his final 2 full seasons 19th and 20th...when he eventually left we were 20th and had not won away in over 2 years..

does a win versus Real Madrid make up for that..?
maybe it does because everyone seems to have forgotten just how terrible our league form was and nobody forgets that we beat Madrid...

Did you watch us play under Malky?

When was that anything like the style Dave Jones produced? We scored more under Warnock than Malky.

Malky had loads of money to spend and really had a chance to take us into the Premier League with momentum. He had money to supplement that squad and wasted it.

I can’t believe the rose tinted view of Malky’s functional football all while spending millions.

Pissed me right off tonight This has.

Totally agree about the signings and when we were good we were unbelievable.

However he really didn’t understand the derby at all. Also, when bad under DJ wow were bad. Used to go on shocking runs like the year we missed the play offs. 6 nil v Preston.

Thought we won matches against other teams besides real like standard liege the two Moscows dynamo/torpedo and others before going out over two legs? tbh not going to try look was only going from memory, yes our league form was rubbish but that makes our results more remarkable! As cup winners cup usually involved top teams in their leagues? Anyway must be the fact loved euro nights

Jones for me, he seemed to be able to attract players to the club, and we played good football. That was infinitely better than what we watch now, and for the last couple of years. And Jones could get great free transfers and get them playing well, Rae, McPhail, McNaughton, Capaldi, Kennedy, Alexander, Burke. And he signed good players who performed well, for reasonable fees, some of whom were sold on for good money. Loovens, Johnson, Chopra, McCormack and best of all Whittingham. He even played a few younsters...in League Games!! Blake, Ramsey, Wildig, Matthews (then ruined him!). He didn't seem too friendly though.

Whereas Warnock, I think it's fair to say was not liked before he came here. He did a good job in 16/17 and signed Bamba and Hoilett. And then brought in NML and Etheridge for nothing to and did a miraculous job getting us up, whilst taking all the credit for it of course. So a good year and a half. And now almost a bad year and a half. Crap football and the permanent underdog statements, no wonder we went down. And now this season!!! Awful. And he's spent £60m in transfer fees and we'll be lucky to get back £20m on those players. And he's not that nice either, I don't believe the nice guy act, not after he went on the pitch last Sunday and started abusing the ref

As for Mackay, he did well, got the promotion, spent very little compared to Warnock and got us to a League Cup Final, which nearly won.

If I had to rate them 1-3 it would be
1 Jones, good football, signed good players, sold them on for good money.
2 Mackay , decent football, hard to beat, did it without breaking the bank, had other issues though.
3 Warnock, started well, bad recently, wasted a load of money, poor football...well terrible football.

Managers from earlier eras were more popular.
Scoular, well respected, loads of Welsh Cup wins, nearly promoted 3 times, Cup Winners Cup Semi, Beat Real Madrid.
May , well liked , got us up as champions and won a couple of Welsh Cups, a fans favourite.
Ashurst, liked, got us promoted from 3rd tier and came back later when we were in dire trouble and did Ok.
Burrows, one of my favourites, 1st time got us up on a shoestring and had players like Gilligan, Curtis, Bartlett, Boyle Ford, Wimbleton. 2nd time did Ok but was very popular too.

Not sure on McKay having a small budget, promotion season we outspent everyone and when we were in the premiership we had the biggest budget a promoted club has ever had. Prices of players have massively increased between malkys and Warnocks times, you can't compare the actual funds spent like for like. I also wouldn't say the football was better under Malky, we were even more defensive.

Although prior to Malky spending the big bucks I thought he did well building a squad on a limited budget.

He don’t know what he’s talking about.

Bloody Warnock spent more than Malky? Bloody hell!!!

Malky spent more than Warnock even if you don’t take inflation into account. With that included it’s not even close.
