Players we never saw the best of

Wed Oct 30, 2019 10:53 am

I was thinking about manga and how it really feels like we never saw the best of him. Different manager and he could have been a fixture at the back for years to come imo.

What other players do you feel we didnt make the most of whilst they were here?

i'd say we had Managa in his prime. He only left because he wanted to go back to France

i'd go for...Ross McCormack - he had one awesome season but i would of liked to have seen him here longer, especially as he only went for 250K

Good shouts.

Javi Guerra, Wilf Zaha, Gestede, we didn't see the best of Le Fondre or Nicky Maynard for varying reason either.

He might have been disappointing but that's different to not seeing the best of someone mate, I think how he was here was 'what he was'. His career before and after didn't suggest any different.

Burgstaller, Zaha, Odemwingie, Ravel, Ameobi, Le Fondre, Ajayi, Scott Malone, Guerra, Gestede

Arguably all failed to deliver for us and succeeded elsewhere

Alex Revel...think his time with us was the pinnacle of his career. and was a bridge too far for him.

thought le fonder was OGS biggest mistake tbh.
we had all heard of him . but the fact that 51 of his 102 apps for Reading were as a sub and his longest run in anyones starting 11 in the top 2 tiers was given to him by Russel Slade before even he { the manager that showed the most faith in him } shipped him out suggests most thought we were buying a better player than he actually was..?

Dean Saunders...
had him here for a 4 game goal less loan from Swansea and declined to sign him on a free....
went on to play for Liverpool, Villa, Derby, Benfica, and made 75 apps for Wales...

Pretty much everybody in the current squad! With the exception of Etheridge, Peltier, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett, Ralls Holiett.

And none of those are at the level they were at a couple of years back, so maybe we have seen the best of them now.

Others include, Glatzel, MAdine, Ward, Bogle, Vaseell, NML. Vaulks,. Bacuna, Pack, Paterson.Reid, Murphy, Whyte.

That's true mate but I expected more as he came with a good reputation but didn't live up to it, and yes, he didn't improve after he left us either

Wilfred Zaha can be added to list. And in a strange way Aaron Ramsey too.

Re: Players we never saw the best of

Wed Oct 30, 2019 8:21 pm

For all his success it would have to be Ramsey. For waste of potential, how about Leon Jeanne??

Louis Saha tops my list! :(

Could have come here, put his head down and shown what he was about in a positive way; rather that the sulky, pedantic and effortless fair that ensued

This could be a twenty pager going on our record. :laughing6:

Mark Delaney, Daniel Gabbidon and James Collins all went on to play for seasons in the PL.

MacCormack and Fowler

Re: Players we never saw the best of

ALF and Ricky Lambert

Eoin Doyle..scores goals for fun wherever he plays, 5 in 16 games for us despite our usual crap build up.
Out he goes and we pay mega bucks for a succession of piss poor forwards who cant hit a barn door.

How about players that we have seen the best of -
Jay Bothroyd is an absolute gem there as is Steve McPhail & David Marshall.

Have I missed us signing Louis Saha, surely you’re mixing him up with Wilfried Zaha?

For me it would have to be someone like A Corn or players similar to that. Whilst he was a massive waste of money seems to be having a decent career now. We’ve had a load of players who have gone on to flourish elsewhere. We rarely seem to see the best of players the last few years.

Apparently we did want to sign him but only offered him £85pw, Brighton paid more.
