Cardiff fans protest
Monday 28th October 2019
There was a sizeable police presence inside the Liberty Stadium for this game, with a number of measures introduced in order to prevent trouble, including the use of facial recognition.
The technology aims to automatically identify known trouble-makers, but even law-abiding fans have expressed concerns over its use.
Inside the 18th minute of the game, Cardiff fans, who had been bussed to and from the Liberty Stadium as part of police restrictions, unfurled a banner in the away end reading "No Facial Recognition".
While the technology is frequently used at matches week in week out, there are clearly still concerns over whether it infringes on the rights of match-going fans, although the debate over its use go well beyond football.
One Cardiff shopper recently took South Wales Police to court earlier this year, arguing that its use in the city centre was an unlawful violation of privacy.
That case was dismissed, but the debate over this technology is likely to continue.
