Well Said Vince
VINCE ALM:
“ WEAR HALLOWEEN MASKS AT MATCH “
The below is my personal opinion and NOT the supporters club who I have not had time to discuss with on their stance.
Facial recognition
It is disappointing that South Wales Police will be employing Facial Recognition cameras at the South wales derby tomorrow.
I did make representations for the use of it to be withdrawn and the match commanders were willing to relax it but they have been over ruled by senior officers.
I am against it for many reasons including the technology is poor with a success rate of just 10-20%. There are members of the public currently on the watch list that shouldn't be on there. Also members of the public have been wrongly identified and detained. It violates our right to privacy; It denies the opportunity to oppose; It can lead to automation bias; It can be used to target Vulnerable groups.
In our case tomorrow it violates the necessity and proportionality for the fixture. The numbers of banned football supporters between the two clubs are very few and 100s of officers will be deployed tomorrow including a large team of spotters from both clubs who will probably outnumber the supporters who are banned. There is more than enough resource and legislation to back up the police operation without the use of Facial Recognition cameras
The risk of violence between the two clubs is very low with an early kick off, travel restrictions, and reduced ticket allocations. There will be surveillance vans which have the facility to record along with all the CCTV dotted around everywhere Facial Recognition Cameras are not required.
The Football Supporters Association are opposed to its use at football matches and it is something that I feel we need to campaign against in the future.
As it is Halloween this week I call on all Cardiff City supporters and Swansea City supporters to celebrate the occasion by wearing Halloween masks to the match tomorrow lunchtime
