POLL " GENERAL ELECTION ON DECEMBER 12TH "

Tue Oct 22, 2019 11:28 am

Who will you vote for on December 12th?

OFFICIAL

THERE WILL BE A GENERAL ELECTION ON DECEMBER 12TH 2019

MPS BACKED IT BY 438 TO 20

UPDATED

There will be a General Election on December 12th.

The Labour Party have confirmed they will back it tonight.

Government to table a motion for a General Election on Monday under the fixed term Parliament act.

Very likely to pass this time.

Election date would be December 12th.

BREAKING

MPs vote FOR Withdrawal Agreement Bill, but REJECT the timetable.

PM says he will pause this bill, and step up preparation for No Deal while he awaits EU response to an extension.

Also says that we will leave with this deal - but doesn't mention the date.

Donald Tusk has said he will advise EU27 to grant extension.

Corbyn offered PM chance to work with the whole house to arrange a reasonable timetable.

A huge day in the Commons today as the Withdrawal Agreement Bill is debated.

The chances of an exit by the end of the month go up by a lot if the first stage vote is approved. If not, it looks very unlikely.

That first stage is about the programme motion.

It took me eight and a half hours over last night and this morning but I have read it. It is available on the House of Commons website.

Below are the key amendments to the bill expected to be moved:

- Customs Union

- Confirmatory referendum

- Extending the implementation period

The debate begins at 1.15pm.

It'd be criminal if they didn't request longer to read and analyse it.
To put the lack of time into some context: the government had longer to debate about circus animals (affecting 19 animals) than this which would affect over 60 million people

This is much larger (both in size and implications) and is far more important than the benn act though

Yes may be less time but can give them 3yrs and still wont want it? Only need to look at amount of legal challenges to every aspect of Brexit to see that, and the arguments between nationalists about what's good for themselves
Or labour yes we'll support bill as long as we have a confirmation referendum with remain on ballot paper.... along with amendments to current bill to delay leaving for 2yrs!! Basically they want more time to stop Brexit .

We've heard from Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn, Ian Duncan Smith and Ian Blackford so far.

Backbench speeches limited to a maximum of six minutes for the time being - likely to be reduced further as the debate goes on.

The Government has said that if the timetable isn't approved by Parliament today, then they will pull the bill and push for a General Election as soon as the extension is confirmed by EU leaders.

Following PM Boris Johnson’s decision to pause the process of ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement, and in order to avoid a no-deal Brexit, I will recommend the EU27 accept the UK request for an extension. For this I will propose a written procedure.

EU27 will approve the extension to the end of January by the end of the week. Probably even on Wednesday.

Obvious that the PM will then ask for an election. I don't see how the opposition parties can not go for it now, as they don't have any excuses - the threat of no deal before the election will no longer be there.

Labour have already said tonight that they would back the election when the extension is confirmed.

If the PM loses the Queen's Speech vote this week then he may not even have to call the election, because there would be huge pressure on the Leader of the Opposition to table a vote of no confidence - which would win a majority (all that is needed to trigger the election, unlike the criteria of two thirds when a PM calls an election).

Election on December 12th looks inevitable. I would expect a comfortable majority for the PM and then he will have no issues getting his deal through parliament as soon as Parliament resumes.
