" Great news for Wales tonight "

Mon Oct 14, 2019 8:37 pm

After tonight's results, it has been confirmed that Wales will at least have a place in the Euro 2020 Qualifying play-offs.

We will qualify automatically if we win our final two matches and Slovakia fail to beat Croatia.

But if that doesn't happen, we will have a second chance to qualify in the play-offs.

Good news indeed.
What teams are we likely to be up against in play offs?

We get playoff spot if one of Sweden Bosnia Denmark or Austria qualify automatically
Crucially, Giggs' team will be guaranteed a play-off spot if at least three of the following six sides DO qualify 'normally': Bosnia, Denmark, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia and Austria.

Both Ukraine and Russia have already sealed their place in the tournament, meaning that Wales now only need one of Bosnia, Denmark, Sweden and Austria to qualify. And looking at tables it would take catalistic event to stop all 4 from qualifying... it's very complex but basically because Wales are highly ranked and finished 2nd in group the equation shown gives us playoffs

not quite.
the only way we do NOT get a play off spot is if miraculously 8 or more of the 18 countries ranked above us do not qualify automatically.. at present only 3 are outside automatic qualification places..
where most seem to be going wrong is that they are not taking into account that we can be drafted into the ..league A play offs..

current standings are half way down the following page.

so although technically we do not yet have a play off spot it would take lots of insane results for the likes of spain, England, france etc to not qualify automatically and end up in the play off spots themselves..

We are in the play offs. If you look at from the other side it would take 8 of the sides below the rank of 32 to qualify directly for us to miss out. There's only 5 sides below that ranking still technically able to qualify directly.

That said we don't want to be in the play offs. League B play offs will be really tough and trying to arrange at the end of March / April will probably double the cost. Although I suspect Ireland will end up in the league play offs meaning the winner of those play offs will probably have their games based around the Aviva. Logistically a doddle but the cost of a few days in Dublin equates to a week elsewhere.

The equation I highlighted is taken of the website but not sure what your saying as I've given simple equation and have said it take a disaster of biblical proportions for us not to get into playoffs ... anyway doesn't matter ;)

There is no mathematical possibility remaining that we couldn't end up at least in the play offs. It would 8 take of the current teams ranked 33 downwards to qualify directly. Only 5 of them have that possibility still open. realistically only Kosovo and Armenia have a realistic shout

im saying its not just the league b play offs we can be in . which was obviously your incorrect simple equation was based on..but eh oh don't bother looking at the links and seeing it just bite.
truth be told other than a raft of huge upsets the play offs were almost nailed on from the minute the nations league finished...
