Will Vaulks

By Nathan Blake

Thursday 10th October 2019

I never really understood the signing of Will Vaulks, if I'm honest. I didn't see how he was going to fit in.

We were always going to play with either Ralls, Pack and Bacuna, or two of those and one advanced, Lee Tomlin or even Callum Paterson. And he was never going to play ahead of those.

It's probably become a bit of a headache for Warnock in terms of how he fits him in, because when players are bought for a few million quid, you don't expect them to sit on the bench.

Perhaps the club weren't aware Pack would become available on deadline day and envisaged a more prominent role for Vaulks before that deal. And, of course, Bacuna has come very good of late.

It's tough to judge someone on so few appearances, but it just looks a bit of a curious signing at the moment.

Signing a central midfielder after seeing three of our best central midfielders leave in the summer. What’s not to understand? Ok maybe it hasn’t worked out as well as we all hoped for Vaulks but his career isn’t over yet

Was Blake drunk when he wrote that? It doesn't even make any sense when you break it down.

He didn't see how Vaulks would fit in with Ralls, Pack and Bacuna the midfield three despite Pack signing after Vaulks?

Yea I thought that was odd. Vaulks was signed early in the transfer window and was probably earmarked for Pack's job in the midfield. But from what I remember Pack became available late in the transfer window and was snapped up.

Agree entirely with you. It seemed like a most sensible signing. What I don't understand is why the guy hasn't been given a chance. From the first game when he sat on the bench against Wigan (before Pack had signed) Wigan and not brought on despite the midfield being over run in the second half. Unfairly blamed at Reading for the first goal and substituted at half time despite Pack going of injured and Ralls and Bacuna (who was shocking) both being on yellow cards.

Yet another example of Warnock's poor transfer dealings. :old:

The truth is Vaulks stood out in a poor Rotherham team. Now he is in a good squad he is struggling.

He is 6th choice in our midfield and deserves to be at the moment

I said when he signed and everyone was saying what a good signing he was that he would be a bit part player and most people laughed. Same as Joe Day and Nelson. Squad fillers at best

More bollox from Blakey...

He signed before Pack.

On the back of a great season.

Bacunas form wasn't anticipated.

Really Blakey?

You're normally outspoken enough why didn't you say that at the time?

Easy to be wise after the event, and as said above he could still come in and play well, he just needs to prove how good he is in training and his chance could still come!

Laugh as much as you want
The fact is I am right.
He is 6th choice and the others are squad fillers.
Anybody who actually watched him play rather than just jump on the bandwagon of his Wales call up would have seen we already had better in the squad.
If he wasnt a welsh international then people would have said why are we signing another guy from league 1

He is 6th choice at the monent. All that can and will change. Vaulks has got a good shot on him, strikes a dead ball well. The ingredients are there.

Hes not as good as Pack, Ralls, Tomlin, Patterson or Bacuna.

I doubt we will see much if any of him this season. Even when Pack was injured he did not get a sniff, that says it all. I wouldnt be suprised if hes loaned out in january when another midfielder comes in.
