MY VIEW: WBA DOMINATED & OUTCLASSED CARDIFF IN THE FIRST-HA

MY VIEW / OPINION

WBA DOMINATED & OUTCLASSED CARDIFF IN THE FIRST-HALF / CARDIFF CAME BACK IN THE GAME SECOND-HALF BUT ONCE AGAIN ALBION HAD THE FINAL SAY WITH A CLASS FRONT-LINE.

MY MAN OF THE MATCH SMITHIES, BY FAR, OUTSTANDING FOR CARDIFF CITY TODAY :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

The scoreline of 3-2 flatters Cardiff, but shows our strikers can score.

Today you could see the difference in class between Cardiff & WBA , Albion’s team just dominated most of the first half.

You could see the difference in Albions attack, pure quality, money spent, Warnock does not have that luxury.

First-half: WBA started the more brightly and deserved their 2-0 score. Smithies made some superb saves for Cardiff to keep the score down, it could of been at least 5 to Albiion

Ex Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore came off the bench for the last 10mins and was booed by Cardiff fans.

City had a 10min good spell in the 2nd half.

Danny Ward scored 2 for City.

WBA 4 CARDIFF CITY 2
H/t 2-0

Cardiff City (4-2-3-1): Smithies; Peltier, Morrison, Flint, Bennett; Pack, Bacuna; Whyte, Paterson, Hoilett; Glatzel
Subs: Etheridge, Coxe, Nelson, Tomlin, Mendez-Laing, Murphy & Ward.

WBA started well and were a real threat to Cardiff in the opening 20mins.

Then Smithies made a great save from Charlie Adams and I mean a great save, then bang on the 20th min Pereira shot straight past Smithies to make it 1-0

Pereira was at it again. The Baggies man unleashed another dangerous shot on goal and Smithies had to get down smartly to his right to tip it wide!

Albion were looking by far the better team in the first 35mins.

Smithies made some superb saves for Cardiff to keep the score down.

Whyte for Cardiff had a good half, also having a shot saved.

Smithies again made an incredible save. Diangana, who had been a nuisance all afternoon, broke into the box and fired a low cross. Charlie Austin got another toe on, this time from three yards, but the keeper keeps him at bay again. That was truly remarkable from Smithies.

Albion continued to make more chances and deservedly went in at h/t leading.

H/T 2-0

Cardiff started brightly Glatzel ran down the right and hammered a shot at Johnstone, who tipped it over the crossbar.

Mendez-Laing came on, Paterson off.

City and Albion were end to end now and both clubs having shots wide.

68th min WHAT A MISS! An absolute sitter missed by Robert Glatzel. A delicious ball in from Junior Hoilett plonks the ball right on Glatzel’s head, just yards out, but he barely connected with the header and it glanced wide. Terrible effort, by Glatzel.

City had a Goal ruled out! Peltier delivered into the box and Glatzel heads home... but the official’s flag went up for offside.

Then bang Albion 3-0 Charlie Austin

Glatzel off, Ward came on.

75th min Danny Ward scored for City :bluebird: 3-1

Then another great save by Smithies.

West Brom sub: Austin off, Zohore on

Whyte came off, Murphy on for Cardiff

Danny Ward scored again :bluebird: :bluebird: 3-2

Albion made it 4-2 in 94th min.

To make things worse, Bristol are in the top 6 today. I still think we will be top ten at end of season, not sure if we are good enough for a play off spot, will need a fair bit of luck if we are to get there.

We are to slow going forward only once did we break with pace and we almost scored ! NW as got to change his mentality of getting players looking to play ball backwards... the stats are brilliant for us almost equal except possession there not that bad either?

The Jury might have been out on Robert Glatzel until now but IMO they are fast coming to a verdict. Good worker tries hard but can't be relied on to score. Danny Ward has earned his stripes and should now get a run in the team.

Just got this from BBC

And with 86 minutes on the clock Ward had his and Cardiff's second, the 27-year-old heading home Josh Murphy's cross.

I think we lost today to an eventual top two team. Its been a good September and I do not feel too disheartened. If we can keep within touching distance of the play offs (top ten) at Christmas I will again be happy but if we are to get in the play offs we need to have a decent transfer window (for once!). The dead wood has to be removed, there are too many rank average squad players picking up a wage. The squad is then solid but it has absolutely no flair. We have to use the loan market from the Premier league better and then perhaps the lottery of the play offs is possible. Last season Aston Villa were 9th on Boxing day. Its how you finish the season that counts.

Have to agree,if not 100%,I think he (glatzel)needs a rest, and agree 100% on ward, what is it now,3 goals in roughly half an hrs game time? Has definitely earned a shot, but will neil do it ? :old: :bluebird:

We always have a negative, don't lose mentality away from home and pick players accordingly. We play for the draw and then are surprised when we concede first. Need to change our mentality if we are gonna win more games away. Look at Charlton away at Fulham today, on the front foot and pressed them. Didn't look terrified on the ball like we do.

Dominated and outclassed? Got to disagree with that? they were a good team thats for sure but we matched them for shots on off target and for corners. Possession was around 60/40 split so to me we were not being dominated! as for outclassed yes a very good passing team and most teams will outclass us in that respect but it's not guaranteed to win a team the game as we've seen already.

My mate went yesterday and said we were awful. In fact, most fans I speak to say the same about every game.

I can’t remember when I last left a game and thought ‘ that was great’..

West Brom are likely to finish top 2 and it definitely showed. We were outclassed all over the pitch with some very poor performances from certain city players. If it wasn’t for smithies it could have easily been 5 or 6. Annoying we leave it late and are losing before having a go at teams.
For me, ward comes in for Glatzel, Ralls for bacuna and Tomlin for Patterson. Despite a decent performance from smithies I think Etheridge will also come in.

On a side note, 2nd time I’ve been to West Brom and both times the atmosphere has been good. Definitely up there with the best grounds I’ve been to in terms of atmosphere. If only our main standing/singing section was next to the away fans....
