BREAKING NEIL WARNOCK: "UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS TODAY"

NEIL WARNOCK:

Sol Bamba?

"I went to Llanelli the other night and it was a good game. There was a good atmosphere, apart from a couple of yobs in the stand. It was that type of game he needs.

The first week back we will have a friendly game rather than the 23s game, but not sure who."

Joe Ralls?

"He’s getting better. It’s only three days and we’ve got two weeks off. If I feel the same speaking to him today, I would tell him no. I would advise him against that if we have a fortnight before the next game."

International break?

"If we can get a result it would be a fabulous end to the month. Once again we’ve been given another Friday night after the international break, one or two of the lads won’t get back to the Thursday. Once you can allow but twice is out of order, really. I will be writing to the EFL.

There should be some common sense, but unfortunately with the EFL there’s not much going about.

It’s totally out of order. It’s all right for these lads who have European players, but we have players in far-flung corners of the world coming back Thursday for a Friday game. It’s scandalous really."

Zohore, reflect on time here?

"The players that do frustrate you like that win you the games. I’m glad I’ve been able to give him a step up in life really. When I came to the club everyone was telling me to let him go the next week on a free transfer back to Belgium. But I didn’t let him go and he contributed to us going up, he had a six-month purple patch. Whether he recaptures that or not is down to the six inches between his ears."

"I’ve always thought he’s not had the best advice from certain people. I won’t go into detail."

Haunt you?

"He will haunt anybody. He could score a hat-trick tomorrow. He does need a certain type of attention. You have to involve him pretty much daily in conversations."

Three years since you joined...

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I didn’t realise that. I thought you’d tell me we’d not beaten West Brom for 25 years or something. It’s flown by, full of incidents, ups and downs, but overall I’m really proud of how the club is now to how it was when I arrived. I take enormous pride in how we are, especially every time we listen to the fans."

Lee Tomlin?

"It’s difficult for him to sustain it with the size of the pitch. Yes you could say it leaves more gaps for him. But you’ve got to manage it. At 2-0 we managed the second half superbly.

Our lads are realising it will take a good team to score three goals against us. We can’t go gung-ho."

Thoughts on WBA?

I always thought they might be the team this season. Leeds have got the names and spent a lot more money but West Brom and Fulham have spent big amounts of money, too. One of those three will eventually win the league and everything else is up for grabs.

I always enjoy going there, it’s a good pitch and had one or two really good games there. I’m sure the crowd and the atmosphere will be good for away fans. Hopefully it will be raining and blowing a gale.

It's seven unbeaten now…

"We’re getting back to where we were. You’re tempting fate because this team on Saturday will test every aspect of our run, front and back.

They are an all-round very good team. But I think we are too. So there’s no reason it can’t be a cracking game."

A word with international players?

"If anything, the long journey helped Leandro, he’s had his best spell here since that. The other night, with Pack playing and us bringing Tomlin in, he had to be more disciplined. And for 90% of that game he marked their best player. The only time he got away from him he hit the post.

He also contributed to us going forward. So he is learning a different role. When Pack was out he was our best defensive midfield player.

I’m delighted he has got the plaudits."

Midweek game, commanding…

"I didn’t think we would only have 28% possession. But we look at the opposition and they have wiped the floor with many teams this season. If we made it a wide open game we would have come out on the wrong end. The job was to nullify their strengths.

These top sides like Fulham, QPR and West Brom, I’m not concerned about them having possession in their own half, it’s what they do with it. I thought Bennett and Peltier were superb the other night. The two centre-halves, Packy… It just happened that they had more of the ball.

They changed their system which threw us a bit but the lads did well."

Game plan?

"We joked it would be solid and we would do them at one of the corners. And that’s what happened.

There’s still more to come from Whyte, Murphy and Glatzel.

They’re aware more of their own responsibility. I thought Robert was soft in a couple of games so I had to show him you can’t be soft in the Championship. The other night they were physical but they didn’t boss him.

That’s the thing we’ve been working on, getting him in advantageous positions."

Lots of competition now?

"It is causing me more problems. The other night, because Rallsy wasn’t playing, Coxe came into the team. We are only allowed two that come through. That’s why we had to leave Omar out. I thought I’d need Wardy, Pato, Nelson and the goalkeeper.

That’s going to be the more difficult job in the next few weeks.

Tomlin wasn’t even on the bench at Hull, it was between him and Ward and I went with Ward. Lads have got to be ready now."

What was it like when you got here?

" There were fragments everywhere. It was a fragmented club. Nobody really pulling it together and that was my biggest job, not just the team but off the field and upstairs with the owners etc. It’s been a really big effort to put the club in a situation where we are today. Everybody’s pulled round, Vincent has been fabulous, so has Mehmet and Ken. The fans have been amazing, office staff, they’ve all mucked in. It’s even been good for the local press because there’s more interest in the club again. "

Toughest job?

NEIL WARNOCK:

Yeah. Overall, with everything to deal with, not just football. The toughest by far. I’ve come through it by only reading fans’ forums when we’ve won a game!

As a manager you have beliefs and through adversity you get tested on whether you’re doing the right thing.

The only time since I’ve been at the club since I’ve doubted where we were going is probably five minutes to go at Reading this season. I looked round and it wasn’t one of my teams and I wondered if there would be a response and there was. A wonderful response from the next game.

Morrison came to see me, because he knew I was a bit down, on behalf of one of the players. Who does talk to the manager? Who motivates the manager? Mehmet’s been brilliant but at times the lads must have thought at the time it might have been in my mind.

I wouldn’t have wanted to stand on the touchline with performances like that, with the crowd unhappy.

One of the pleasing things for me is making the crowd happy.

I remember I got the Sheffield United job and I told the people when I was a kid I used to go in through the turnstiles, sneak in under my dad’s legs and going to the top of the Kop. Watching the oohs and the ahhs and the shots. Then when we got a result, going home with my dad was unbelievable for me at six or seven years of age. And that’s what I want kids to remember here. I want them to remember the Warnock times, how they went home after a game and thinking ‘wow’.

You’re always going to get critics, you get that everywhere. I think the kids and tomorrow’s fans have enjoyed my era. I think there is still some to come.

What did Morrison say?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"He talked to Blacky and Ronnie and they might have spoken to Morrison, because he was too well informed.

There was a lot going on at the time as well and we’d just lost Pack for five or six weeks, Etheridge and Bamba was nowhere near.

It’s one of those things. You’re there and everything negative comes into your mind.

But then you think, this is why you’re good. You’ve got to overcome this now, you’ve got to your your mind back and get them ready for Huddersfield. That’s got to go and you’ve got to show them all where you’re going. It was a hard few days, that, but the response was fabulous.

I had a chat with one or two of the lads in that period, Morrison and a couple of the lads were very good. It was a team effort, that week. How we got through it. Now we are up and running again and got one or two of the injured lads back and life doesn’t look as bleak.

That’s why he’s my skipper. He speaks on my behalf. He senses things in the dressing room, he informs me, we’re not going to get anybody into trouble. It’s one of the success stories, the captain’s relationship with the manager"

Sums up what we all thought about Zohore anyway bloke has wasted his career. Already 25 and with his physical talent should be playing in a top league and should have been starting for Denmark at the world cup. Instead hes a sub in the champ and hasnt even won a single cap for Denmarks first team. Be intresting to see if anything further happens in the media in regard to what Warnock hinted at about him other influences around him.
