MY VIEW: WHAT A START BY CARDIFF CITY TONIGHT / BUT AT TIMES

Wed Oct 02, 2019 8:32 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

WHAT A START BY CARDIFF CITY TONIGHT / BUT AT TIMES QPR BY FAR LOOKED THE BETTER SIDE / BUT ITS GOALS WHAT REALLY MATTER & CITY CERTAINLY KNEW HOW TO SCORE THEM TONIGHT :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

NEIL WARNOCK PROVING THE DOUBTERS WRONG ONCE AGAIN :thumbright:

For me what helped City was that QPR came and attacked and never came to defend like most away clubs do.

City are now 7 games undefeated and with players coming back from injuries, City look like they can now start challenging at the top end of the Championship.

Win your home games and bring back at least a point from your away games, thats what City are now doing, which will eventually take City in to the play-offs at least.

GOALS ARE WHAT WIN GAMES & CARDIFF SEEM TO HAVE FINALLY FOUND HOW TO BREAK TEAMS DOWN :bluebird: :bluebird:

QPR had 74% of the possession.

First-Half: Great start by City with Morrison scoring from a header after 11mins. QPR were controlling the play and having the majority of the game, playing some good football at the same time, but City were continually looking good on the break.
QPR hit the post after sustained pressure and against the run of play Pack made it 2-0 :thumbright: :thumbright: QPR had by far the better of the first-half, but its goals what count :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

CARDIFF CITY 3 QPR 0 :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:
H/t 2-0
Morrison / Pack / Paterson
Crowd 21,387
Away Support 450 QPR

Cardiff City: Smithies; Peltier, Flint, Morrison, Bennett; Bacuna, Pack; Whyte, Tomlin, Murphy; Glatzel

Subs: Etheridge, Coxe, Nelson, Hoilett, Mendez-Laing, Paterson, Ward

What a start by City in the 11th min Lee Tomlin made a surging run and was, once again, hauled down. He lifted in a lovely ball and Flint heades across the box, only for Morrison to nod on once again into the far corner. 1-0 City! :thumbright: :bluebird:

After 35mins QPR were controlling the play and having the majority of the game, playing some good football at the same time, but City looking good on the break.

QPR hit the Post! that was close. Some sustained pressure from QPR saw Eze pick the ball up on the edge of the Cardiff box. He bent it round Morrison and it rattled the upright!

In the 45th min against the run of play Pack made it 2-0 City :bluebird: :bluebird:

A well-worked corner found Gavin Whyte, who drilled one across the face of goal and Marlon Pack gladly tapped home at the back post! :bluebird: :bluebird:

H/T 2-0 :bluebird: :bluebird:

City started ok, but then QPR dominated once again for long periods.

In the 61st min there was a double chance for QPR! Manning slid through and hit a left-footed shot at goal, but Smithies tipped it onto the post before the rebound was sent wide!

65th min Tomlin came off, Callum Paterson on.

What was unbelievable was QPR had created more and played better but were still 2-0 down, thats why goals are really what matter at the end of the day :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Then bang a great strike/ goal by Callum Paterson in the 72nd min 3-0 :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

QPR still never gave up, Smithies was the wall again! The ball fell to Todd Kane at the back post, but the City keeper made himself big to deny the substitute in a one-on-one! :ayatollah:

Glatzel went off, Ward came on.

MY MAN OF THE MATCH: MARLON PACK :bluebird: :bluebird:

Pleased with the result.

I can see why QPR have done well so far this season. Caused us difficulties.

But we defended well and got the goals.

Watched the match online.

Pack was easily MOTM for me. Easily our best player at this level, judging on performances so far.

Bit confused coming home, thought we were garbage tonight esp the first half. Was like 11 strangers.

Luckily we rode our luck and took some chances. Second half much better effort and pressing, bit more quality.

Still want to know what Murphy thinks on the pitch, thought he did nothing other then that good freekick near the end we just missed.

Pack was very vocal all game which is good to see

Yes I watched it and at times I could not believe we were winning.

But then how many times have we played well and lost .

Three nil and a clean sheet, so we can’t really moan  :bluebird: :bluescarf:

That was a really frustrating & difficult fixture.

The first half was horrible for us.. QPR came with clever movement, and I couldn’t work out how they were getting so much space through the middle!

Nice to see us clinical for a change... but I’d take a point now for Saturday.

Thats the worst I've seen us play since reading but the best result of the season ,was in shock at half time and full time on how we won that by 3 goals , sign of a good team playing shite and winning

Even by Warnockball standards 28% possession and winning a home game 3-0 is remarkable. Had four attempts on target and scored three and that won't happen very often.

QPR ran us ragged first half and Bennett didn't know what day it was. Murphy helped him more second half and QPRs threat down that flank reduced. QPR had two midgets and against our physicality they struggled but they rattled our woodwork twice with two really good efforts and were wasteful with other chances. Smithies by far the busier keeper and made several good blocks.

Its a great three points but I'm not getting carried away that all of a sudden we have enough goals in us. I also think its really tough to keep the clean sheets promoted sides get when you don't have the ball for next to three quarters of the game.

Yeah QPR had a lot of possession and their midfield was really good but a lot of the time they were playing sideways and backwards because of our shape and when they got a chance they weren’t up to it and you can only win if you score goals. Something we did with aplomb. :ayatollah:

As usual, people on here being one eyed! Give credit where it’s due! We weren’t that bad - it was QPR who were good! Easily the best of the 5 teams at the Cardiff City Stadium this season. But they lacked a killer instinct in front of goal, mainly due to the excellent work of Morrison, Flint and Pack.

The 'Warnock Way' is starting to show its worth again and the team are looking a bit like Sally Gunnell again; ugly but keeping on winning! :thumbright: :laughing6:

But they were not much better other than passing amongst themselves inside own half! At beginning of 2nd half for nearly 15mins they did not put ball in our pen area and they were losing 2 nil! ! Never ever going to win games like that and tonight showed efforts on goals is better than possession .. :old:

Very strange game, thought we were poor and I've seen us play better and come away with nothing yet we won 3-0. We've had so many games this season where we've had chances to score and wasted them, so I felt at some point we were gonna give someone a hiding. Great result, hope we can get something from WBA now.

QPR had all the ball but City's shape was superb, possession counts for nothing if you can't put the ball in the net We went up two seasons ago playing this style and Warnock is the master at it, we won't make many friends with this style but if it gets us up no one will care, great result.

Goals win games and possession doesnt give you 3 points unless you score I understand that.

But and I mean but .. I hadn't seen much shape and i hadn't seen any type of football that would win us the game.

We would expect to beat QPR especially at home I'm.just really struggling to watch the game play !!

3 pts is 3 pts we have played alot better on days and come away with a draw so hopfully this is a turning point for us :bluescarf:

With Morrison, Flint, Pack in the same side - that is quick a bit of physical presence.
Never knew Bacuna was so fast - his pace last night in parts was extremely fast.
The whole team performance was great. I saw the stats of 22% possession :o

Great three points against a handy QPR side who moved the ball well and should have had the ball in the net but this was a typical NW team performance. It's what you do with the ball when you have it that counts and we did that very well.

We defended well when we had to, Smithies pulled off a couple of good saves and the woodwork did come to our rescue. We took three chances when they fell to us to complete a good nights work.

Football is about winning games, we won....with a bit to spare. :bluebird:

I agree wez, we were poor but I thought QPR with their speed and movement up front run us ragged. We had no answer to their movement and on another day they would have scored for fun.

Saying that, we kept our discipline and took our chances for a change!

Last night was a Neil Warnock masterclass. We won 3-0 with only 28% of the procession which can only be down to tactics which worked a treat! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Wouldn't a clean sheet (& only a handful of shots on target) indicate we DID have an answer to QPR's speed and movement up front?

I take your point of course and I’d much rather our 3 points than their pretty football but I’m saying that I thought their forward play was great to watch. The speed of movement had Pack and especially Bennett not knowing what day it was at times. Fair play to Bennett as he eventually got a lot tighter to that no.20 up front and had some decent wrestling matches with him and curbed his threat a bit.

Another day it could have been 0-3 and I’m glad Nahki Wells didn’t start.

At times it was ‘embarrassing’ watching them cut through us and out playing us but at the end of the day we scored, they didn’t.
