trying to force us to have the right to fix our own household appliances

Used to be able to buy lots of these spares at little places around Cardiff but now very few around anywhere! Think parts master online is best place to go for bits but the other problem now is like modern cars you cannot access parts that need replacing or need special screwdriver or tool... it's a throw away society

I don't really understand this article. Whenever one of my appliances has broken down, I buy a replacement part via the internet and repair it myself. If I am unable to repair it, I contact a local electrician, plumber, specialist or whatever to do it for me. Just had our 15 year old dishwasher repaired for the second time, still going strong. Our washing machine has had one repair, and I changed the element in our electric fan oven recently. Wasn't aware of any regulations saying I should not do this.

You realise this plays into the hands of Maintenance firms and that your right to actually repair a machine yourself is being taken away as spares wont be available to mr joe bloggs any longer only recognised approved engineers.

Almost looks like the days of the old Soviet Union. Why should a homeowner be told they cannot repair their own appliance, using their own money in their own house. Probably health and safety again. People of my generation have carried out their own home and car maintenance since we were old enough to hold a spanner. Remarkably, a lot of us survived these astonishing feats if stats are to be believed.

The point of the article is that repairing your own things won’t void a warranty. Another damned consumer right which we’ll miss out on. No chance in hell it gets adopted by the Tory party. Although if we’re going to trade with EU our exporters will have to follow this EU legislation anyway.
Whereas us here will get screwed. Thanks a lot.
