Nathaniel Mendez-Laing
By Glen Williams
Tuesday 1st October 2019
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's situation is curious at the moment. He is clearly not quite right and that will be a big concern.
He played 90 minutes on the opening day of the season against Wigan, but subsequently complained of a hamstring problem and was omitted for the win over Luton Town the following week.
The winger returned to the fray in that 3-0 defeat by Reading, practically limping for the entirety of the second half.
He has since played only 57 minutes of football and has made very little impact.
Ahead of the season, Mendez-Laing would have been one of the players City fans were looking at to really turn it on in this division, but, as yet, it's not really happened.

My personal opinion on his day Mendez-Laing is a high quality Championship player, but can be very lazy at times and can go missing.

Could be our star player but seems to lack motivation at times. I wish he'd take those American football shoulder pads off they must be restricting his movement.

Personally wouldn't say he is lazy but I think like a lot of wingers he goes missing, usually due to confidence. If he has the beating of a fullback he is a different player. For me he needs to get fit and get some confidence back and he can be our best player. At the moment for me he is behind Murphy, Whyte and Hoilett.

Agree with this but he needs to knuckle down now he’s fit and fight for a place.

He does this every season brilliant one day poor the next, unfortunately for NML we more consistent wingers who will start before him so he needs to get his act together.

I think its his asthma that gives him problems rather an attitude.

Yeah your right.
I think its also a Warnock issue with injured players, he used to have a go at some of the "soft" players and say I thought they could be back a few weeks ago, he did it with Zohore often and Murphy then correct himself a few weeks later saying actually they were worse than I thought while other players he will do the opposite. I would think players feel they have to say they are fit even when not 100% fit, how NML was allowed to come on against Reading ill never know, no where near fit.

Am I the only one that thinks he's far better on the left than the right? I mean some of his best performances have come from the left including Sheffield United, (home) Liverpool (home), Brighton (away), and Man Utd (away), yet Warnock seems to have moved him over to the right and put Murphy on the left. But I do agree he's looked a fair bit off the pace from the little ive seen of him this season, yet Mendez-Laing and Murphy should be terrorising defenders and getting far more goals and assists than they've had so far this season.
