' LEANDRO BACUNA '

Monday 30th September 2019

By Paul Abdanatto

Leandro Bacuna has been Warnock's star man.

The natural assumption has been that he drops out of the midfield the moment Pack is fit again.

Well that certainly didn't happen at Hull and, by hook or by crook, Warnock will also try to fit him in against QPR.

Why? This is what Warnock has to say about the versatile Bacuna.

"He's been outstanding the last four to five matches. He was my man of the match again against Hull - and, indeed, has been the last few weeks."

That doesn't sound like a player in danger of the axe. If it does fall, given the manager's lavish plaudits Bacuna can count himself as the unluckiest footballer of the season.

He's kind of forced his way into Warnock's thinking. When he arrived back from international duty with Curacao, arriving pretty much on the day of the Derby game, he was still put straight into the Bluebirds team. And played for the duration, too.

Of course, Warnock could switch Bacuna to right-back, where he would offer far more going forward than Lee Peltier.

But the Cardiff manager loves Peltier too.

However something, it is evident, has to give.

What a turnaround in performances for him !

I wasn't impressed last season and after the Reading game I never wanted to see him in the starting XI again

But since then he's been outstanding and looks like a different player. His tackling has been good, as has his closing down, both of which seemed to be non-existent previously.

It will be interesting to see if he can maintain it but if he does it will be like a new signing.

Fair play, all we ask is for players to give their best and look to play at the top of their ability and he's certainly done that recently.

Over the past 4-5 games our centre midfield have been excellent, its the wide players who need to contribute and step up more. Players like Hoilett, Whyte, Murphy and Mendez-Laing need to assist and score more.
