1st aid in schools

Should 1st aid be on school curriculum instead of religion ? Report says basic life support should be on curriculum at schools!
Whilst 1st aid is good idea I feel CPR should not because of the traumatic nature of doing it and psychological effect it could have on children?

Yes, but the teaching strategy should be tailored to meet the needs of the student during such a sensitive subject. Unfortunately, CPR could be required at any time, by anyone, and in conjunction with a defibrillator could save someone’s life.

Well done for starting a thread on such an important subject!

If anyone would like to know more about First Aid, there’s a FREE British RedCross app that provides useful information before, during or after (for confirmation) on a vast array of medical issues such as bleeds, heart attack, stroke, head injuries and unconscious casualties.

Yes can definitely save lives but to Expect a teenager to perform CPR is a step to far! Like said only 10% of heart attack s survive outside hospital setting and even in hospital it's a difficult thing to achieve? There are more and more places that have devibs in place... but wouldn't say easy to access as need either key or code to unlock it...

The physiological affect is an interesting perspective, although if they’re ever in a predicament where a loved one dies, but could have been saved if they (as a teenager) had known CPR, I’d imagine the physiological affect would be worsened tenfold.

Unfortunately, bad things occasionally happen and we can’t protect the youth of today from every eventuality. Having met children left orphaned by acts of war overseas, it puts a British teenager learning CPR - with an extremely low chance of actually doing CPR - into perspective for me.

Whilst I respect your opinion and think it’s an extremely valid point for debate, I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

I also think we need more defibrillators on the streets of the UK.

I’ll tell you what should be on the School curriculum, teach them about finances.
They haven’t a clue, want everything brand new and are prepared to go into debt to get the latest fad, regardless of wrecking their credit rating in future years

100% agree mate. I’m in the profession and I’m in the process of trying to arrange a bank / building society to come in to discuss APR, loans, mortgages etc. Having a bit of difficulty attracting interest atm though.
