:bluescarf: NEIL WARNOCK TODAY UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS :bluescarf:

Thursday 12th September 2019

NEIL WARNOCK:

Connolly operation

“Operation on his ankle, yeah, he couldn’t get it right so he’s given it one last shot. Jazz has picked up another knock as well. He had a challenge with big Aden Flint and it’s left him with a swollen ankle.

“It’s been a little bit like emergency ward 10 or Casualty.”

Free agent search - any breakthrough?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“Not at the moment, no. Not with Marlon recovering really well and we’ve got Will Vaulks at the moment. Most free contracts are looking for two or three years and I don’t think the club are looking to do that at the moment.

“They can shoot themselves in the foot sometimes. But it pays off sometimes, when teams are desperate. But I don’t think we are in that situation at the minute. I’m not really panicking.”

Sol Bamba return - would it then be a back 3?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“In management, you don’t look that far ahead. I had a team in my mind for Derby County and it’s nowhere near that team. I always believe in fate, really. Injuries happen and someone else has an opportunity. If you told me Omar Bogle would be in our team this season, I would have said no chance. But his attitude has changed, which it had to do, and he is an important part now. So never say never in football.”

Team news

“We’ve had an indifferent break It’s been good for the longer term injuries, Bamba, Etheridge, Pack have all done well. Connoly has had another op.

“We’ve had a few little knocks which haven’t helped us. We are a long way from knowing what our team is for tomorrow.

“Leo (Leandro) is not even flying back until this afternoon, it’s scandalous how countries can get away with that. Friday night after an international break doesn’t help us.

“You need a manager like Ryan Giggs who doesn’t play Lawrence on the monday when they are playing us on Friday.

“Leandro Bacuna could fly to the East Midlands to meet us at the hotel. Will Vaulks has come back so that’s a plus for us.

“We’ve had one or two other little knocks as well.

“It’s a bit up in the air.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Need to be more streetwise

“One or two of our lads, even the fourth official couldn’t understand Gavin Whyte was standing up after being kicked. So it’s just being a bit more professional.

“You can’t fault the naivety and honesty of players like that.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Managing in Scotland?

“I think it was that I’ve always wanted to manage in Scotland, many years ago. I applied for the Aberdeen job and I didn’t even get a reply for that. I’ve always thought it would be good to have a go against the big clubs.

“Everyone is aware of my situation, so it’s highly unlikely.”

Bamba update

“He’s not far away. I was even thinking of playing him on Monday but the physios slapped my wrist. He’s training fully with us but he is still 2 months in front from where we thought he’d be. He needs another intensive week of training and could play the following week maybe, or week after that.

“Etheridge and Pack are training with the team and both are doing really well. I’m hoping him and Bamba will push on.

“Etheridge is nearly there. I think Smithies has done alright if I, honest. We had better make sure he is right.”

Joe Ledley

“I’ve not heard anything, no. I’m sure Joe will get fixed up he’s a very good professional but not something we’ve taken on board.”

International Break

“Definitely been a hindrance. We’ve had the same team for three games but it doesn’t look like we can do that.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Are you targeting this next run of games?

“I don’t look that far ahead either. You are talking about good. You look at Wigan and you think you should beat them. But you don’t, if you’re attitude is not right.

“If you don’t defend well you’re not going to win any games. Defensive-wise, we haven’t been decimated with problems the last two weeks.

“So hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves up there.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Management material

“I don’t think you know about players until they are involved in that, it’s so difficult. It’s not something you can get with a coaching badge. The problems managers have to deal with on a daily basis etc.

“When people are learning the game they should sit with me after a couple of hours and see what problems come about.

“There’s so much more involved in football management.

“Most clubs have three or four staff doing what I’m doing.

“Frank Lampard went straight into management but that wasn’t an easy job for him. You look at Steven Gerrard at Rangers, who are becoming a force again. The thing is about a name, you get a better job.

“In our group I look at Marlon Pack and look at what potential he’s got. He’s studious and asks the right questions.

“Sol has been taking the U23s and stuff.”

Injury blow for Derby

Highly-rated Derby County youngster Jayden Bogle is set to miss out on the visit of the Bluebirds tomorrow.

Bogle has missed the Rams’ last six games due to an ankle injury picked up against Swansea.

Boss Phillip Cocu says the 19-year old is edging closer to full fitness, but tomorrow’s game at Pride Park will come too soon for him.

“Bogle is getting close, but he needs some time to train with the first team before he gets into a game again.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Bacuna explanation?

“He’s been liaising with the club, we’ve wanted to get him here as quickly as possible, so if it meant us buying the ticket then so be it.

“It’s difficult for some of the lads because they don’t want to upset their own countries, but he should be flying into East Midlands, hopefully, later on today.

“We were hoping he’d be back yesterday but it didn’t seem possible.”

“We understand the situation of some of the international countries. It’s difficult financially for them. But coming back less than 24 hours before a game is not on really.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Ciaron Brown spring in step after international debut?

“Absolutely, fantastic story. Because of the internationals and headlines, he received very little fanfare. But for a lad to come from Wealdstone, have his contract renewed when I took him to America, I knew he had improved.

“After the first 30 minutes for Northern Ireland he was himself. The first 30 minutes he was a wreck because he was so nervous, not wanting to do anything wrong. And because of that he made a few mistakes.

“But the longer the game went on, he really did well and the manager is really pleased with him.

“And Gavin Whyte. Gavin has only just come from Oxford and he is one of their main players now. He got a bit of a knock in the first game, so he didn’t start against Germany, but they had to bring him on to try and get a result, but hopefully he’ll recover.”

Mixed results

“It would be nice to get settled. But all these knocks and niggles have thrown us a little. We’ll just have to see what’s what in the morning.

“It’s a good place to go, a lovely atmosphere.”

Junior Hoilett ruled out?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“He’s got a personal problem. One of the family is seriously ill and we will just have to keep in touch. What I’ve said to Junior that family is more important than Derby County. So he will let me know if he is available or not.

“The next 24 hours are going to be hard on him. There’s no pressure on him. We’d love him to play but we’re not going to push him to that.”
