Wikipedia provides the folowing quotations attributed to Steve Cooper

Brave on the ball, pass, pass, pass, not one long ball, get into good areas, play as a team and some good individual play up the field as well.
—Cooper on his preferred style of play, 28 October 2017.[10]
Cooper likes his teams to play "attractive football" with a "clear identity" and "good organisation and structure".[15] He prefers his teams to control the game, stating: "It's about playing our way... we want to play with purpose, dominate possession, play forward and get the ball back as quick as we can. That's always our plan."[16]

Cooper coaches his teams to have "tactical discipline, composure, and aggression".[17] He cites former Barcelona B coach José Segura as his main influence; the pair worked together at Liverpool's academy.[15]

Now there's someone who will get PL clubs to loan them their talented youngsters.

Let's nick him at the end of the season from the JB's. Steve Cooper come home, you know it makes sense. It would also pi$$ off the six fingered ones out west.

He really is a breath of fresh air. Fantastic appointment by the club.

Re: Steve Cooper

The next Eddie Howe?

Unbelievably, Cardiff City, that's Cardiff City of the capital city of Wales, would now be unable to tempt away the manager of Bournemouth.

Still move on Cooper though.

Barnet who play in the capital of England wouldn't be able to get Klopp either, Hearts who play in the capital of Scotland also wouldn't be able to take Pep.

Don't beat yourself up. :laughing6:

Re: Steve Cooper

Barnet play in Barnet and Klopp is manager at Liverpool. Somewhat different.

We may be in Bournemouths football shadow but we loom large over Jack Town and could take Cooper when we want.

Then in that case Cardiff play in Leckwith. :D

Genuine question but what being what being the capital actually mean in terms of football ?

Re: Steve Cooper

Being a Capital club, not really the point I admit. But our catchment area is strong.

In European terms and champions league hardly any teams from capital cities succeed. Its the second cities that prevail. Milan, Barcelona, Manchester, Liverpool.

From a recruitment point though we are in a good place and it should be an easy sell. I was comparing us to Bouremouth which is hardly a football hotbed but has built something player and playing wise that is way ahead of us at this time.

''Capital club'' is a phrase I think only used on this forum, it doesn't exist anywhere else. You are a club that plays in a Capital city, just like Cardiff Met, Leyton Orient and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Catchment area isn't much different between the two cities as they are 35 minutes apart, your catchment area is our and ours is yours. As we saw during our PL years, the areas expand due to sustained success nothing else. Floating fans from the depths of Cardiff will jump on our bandwagon should we get more success and vice versa.

Not exactly true is it, as ours extends up to Monmouth, and down to Neath. Not to mention the North Wales lot..be embarrassing if Swansea’s support extended to say, Barry.

Your moustaches are a lot bigger tho, I’ll concede.

Let’s not build him up to something he isn’t.
Yes he has got off to a good start, let’s see where he is in a few years time.

It’s absolutely true, yes. We are 35 mins apart.

I remember threads on here when we were in the PL about people seeing kids with Swans gear on in Merthyr, and even in the Asda in Leckwith and the park by the stadium. Success breeds followers from all over South Wales. It’s funny you think your support extends to Neath though, even funnier to think North Wales is a Cardiff catchment area :D

As I said, what’s yours is ours and what is ours is yours - all depends how successful each club is at the time.

Nearh and Port Talbot have traditionally always had plenty of Cardiff support , whatever the division.

Port Talbot yes I will give you that, Neath no. You were very much an outcast if you were a Cardiff fan in Neath. I’m not saying there aren’t any, just that they are in a small minority. Lee Trundle signed for Neath and he was like a national hero in the town, more white Swans shirts watching Neath than black ones..

Early days lets see how he does over a season, he has been lucky with you keeping a few good forwards, who could still leave yet?

Re: Steve Cooper

Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:21 pm

Not sure it’s luck. Borja and Ayew have both been struggling for form with past managers both here and abroad. Even if he kept Borja there aren’t many that were that excited about the prospect, yet 5 goals in 5 and playing really well under him. The key to the best managers is they get that extra 10-15% out of players.

Ayew linked with Lazio in the last few days but the Americans aren’t stupid and realise we have somewhat of an opportunity present itself here. But saying that, I haven’t seen the balance sheet. Nobody else will go though, some loan deal for a few kids apparently.

Re: Steve Cooper

You have to laugh sometimes.

It's early days he's done excellent but some of the bighong up here is ridiculous.

This isn't an anti Swansea thing, how many new managers come to a new club and we see a surge , a great run of form.

Re: Steve Cooper

It’s not just results. It’s performances, style of play, ethos, presence, command for respect... he ticks every box for our club. The perfect fit.

Reminds me of an ugly version of Brendan Rodgers, just without the ego the size of a small country.

Just to say at this time last season Boro and Leeds topped the table.

It's early days should he get you in playoffs then he rightly should get the plaudits, if he gets you top 2 a key to the city. But it's early days, looks promising but this weekend will give a real view I guess of where the Swansea team are at.

Re: Steve Cooper

Fri Aug 30, 2019 7:03 am

As I said, it’s not about results. It just happens that is the upshot of all of the above.

I don’t think a match away to runaway title favourites will change anything, we are expected to lose this one even with our form.

A big test and then another one if you lose, the doubts creep into the Manager, team and fans, things change quickly, players suddenly decide they do want to leave, early days lets see the league table after 12 games, that will give a slight indication of what is likely to happen!

Re: Steve Cooper

Fri Aug 30, 2019 8:51 am

Then you have a different interpretation to me. :D

I don’t for one second believe that any of our players are under the illusion we are going to be the Championship version of the Arsenal invincibles, so should we lose away to runaway title favourites (as widely expected) then I can’t imagine the players are suddenly going to want to jump ship

You are overachieving, it's amazing how a good few wins can build confidence, but the downside of a young squad is that the confidence can quickly drain with a loss, let's see what happens when you do!

We haven’t achieved anything yet this season to be overachieving.

Each win we have thoroughly deserved so we are doing as we should currently if that is what you mean.
