Patterson CM ?

Tue Aug 27, 2019 6:48 pm

Hopefully Patterson is playing central midfield tonight ?

As a right back Warnock obviously doesn’t think is his best position (has he even played him there ?)

As a 10 I don’t think he has a forwards instinct and therefore is left to be used to knock on headers and basically frighten the shit out the goalie.

Just my opinion but I think as a central midfielder or even a defensive midfielder he could excel, think Artur last season, very energetic chasing down the opposition and breaking up play (some even saying he was like a headless chicken, he wasn’t) however he lacks the quality needed to be a regular in the premier league, hence Eddie Howe loaning him out now 2 seasons on the trot, and Howe rates his attitude and commitment.

Now imagine the opposition seeing the mad Scotsman hailing after them every time they had the ball on the attack, he would break up play just with his shouting I reckon. The championship version of a Gary Medal (well a Harry Artur anyway)

My only concern would be his distribution once winning the ball, but surely they can work on that, as otherwise he has all the attributes to be the midfield general we are missing ?

I’m sorry to report the experiment was a dismal failure. He was horrific

He’s 2 stone overweight. Looks more like a rugby player than a footballer. Maybe Scotland Rugby will call him up for the World Cup.

Not sure Gary Medal and Callum Patterson should really be in same sentence.

Sir Neil wouldnt value Medal as he doesn't give ball away. He marks strikers with the eyes in the back of his head and stops the balls in to their feet. Sir Neil doesn't think opposition play balls into feet which is why he is happy to employ two immobile centre half's. Thinks others still play like he wants to but they don't.

Always gives plenty of effort, but way off the pace this evening, and how can you come back looking so overweight, even if you have been injured?

Fans need to forget Paterson came as a right back because he simply isn’t good enough defensive wise at this level. Too big and slow so gets spun easily and doesn’t have the technical ability to play as a flat cm either. The further up he is the better.

I don't think Patterson has the ability, fitness or quality to be more than a squad player.

Agree with this. Tomlin was sent on loan for being out of condition (which I agree with) yet Paterson is picked ? I know that he's had a horrendous injury but he is way too bulky at the moment.

He's a good sub but I can't see him in the first XI any time soon.

No excuses I agree but he’s proved that when fit he can be more than effective as a striker

I think we'll agree to disagree on that !!

Too slow and limited for me and I certainly wouldn't put him in ahead of Glatzel or even Bogle (last night excluded   ). Same reason why I wouldn't have him as a Number 10.

Always thought he should be able to play just infront of the CBs as a defensive midfield player but it appears that didn't work either.

It’s good to have a civil debate without resorting to the childish antics and oneupmanship that seems to be the agenda of some on here.
I take your point but he used to time his runs so well into the box and was one of our more consistent scorers while in the championship and he was often a handful for defenders last year when he played upfront. He scored a couple and they were clearly not used to his unorthodox style.

I do agree that Glatzel if a far better choice as is Bogle (usually).

Love Patterson. He did a good job up front and scored valuable goals but he is not an orthodox striker or good enough to be. Neither is he the defender we bought. And definitely not a CM. He's a great utility sub and I'm sure will have his moments from the bench this season. Needs to lose the weight mind. With Warnockball, he's good in both penalty areas just not sure he can produce anywhere in between!

He played as a CM. He is much better when played as Number 10/striker.

Pretty much summed up perfectly
