" Goalkeeper returns to Cardiff City "

Tue Aug 27, 2019 3:52 pm

Cardiff City FC are pleased to announce that Brian Murphy has signed a new contract with the Club.

Previously with Manchester City, Ipswich Town, QPR and Portsmouth among others, the goalkeeper signed for City in September 2016, making ten appearances for the Bluebirds to date.

Brian returns to City’s goalkeeping contingent, with his new four-month deal running until 22nd December 2019.

Unless we have another keeper as well as Etheridge injured this makes no sense at all

We have no decent cover at right or left back, are short on numbers and quality in midfield, but have five strikers and four goalkeepers. Brilliant!

Fantastic strategy

Put 3 keepers in goal

We don't attack but this way we won't concede then hit them on the break

Perhaps NE is out for longer than expected?

Why are people moaning about us signing a goalkeeper on a short term contract whilst one of ours is out injured.

It makes perfect sense.

I do know that, you do know yourself that we have two other keepers???

I'd stick him in ahead of both Day and Smithies.

Think it’s a good idea to re-sign him for 4 months, puts a fall back plan into place if Smithies or Day get injured whilst Etheridge is out

And what happens if smithies gets injured? Happy not to have a keeper on the bench?
I very much doubt he is on much money in footballing terms, he is here to provide support. If

I’m at a loss with some of the transfer business the club has done in the last few months because As far as we are aware neither Smithies or Day are injured and if one of them did we would be able to bring in an emergency loan signing..however, as already pointed out by other posters we have no cover at left back after allowing our back up to leave on loan, very little cover in midfield with Pack injured and allowed our only proven goal scorer at championship level leave on deadline day without replacing him.

It’s all a bit of a mystery of who is pulling the strings with regards to transfers because none of it makes much sense at the moment

We have Brown who can play left back.
Cunningham is only on loan until January.
It’s not like Murphy is going to be on 50k a week

Who do you think is pulling the strings it’s not secret who’s on the transfer committee.

Brown is an academy player who is not a left back and only played there tonight because we had no one else
Cunningham is on season long loan with no recall
Doesn’t matter if Murphy is only on smallish wages it’s money we don’t need to spend

And is this the same transfer committee who said we will have a real go this season..then proceeded to sell 3 proven championship players, not adequately replace them and make an overall profit in the summer window. Hardly having a go is it?

Something is not right wouldn’t you agree??

Spot on, our so called squad players showed again last night what a shambles they are, we even got a £6 mill player who couldn't get a game for the "stiffs" last night.

Makes sense with a short term deal, will also be doing some coaching with the development squad.

Personally don't see why we didn't just sign him up for a year and not sign Day, wouldn't surely have saved some money.
