Will Vaulks

Mon Aug 26, 2019 4:54 pm

I don't understand why he seems to be on the sidelines. He appeared to be one of Warnock key signings but has hardly played this season. Unused sub for the first game at Wigan when we were crying out for someone to stop them flooding through the middle and has hardly played since. He started at Reading but was withdrawn at half time despite the fact that both Bacuna and Rolls had been booked. He might have been skinned for their opener but as a midfield player he did well in the first place to get back and push Puskas out wide and had a right to expect there to be cover behind him.

Has there been a fall out with Warnock because for the life of me I can't see how he can start Bacuna over him?

I said in the summer he would be 3rd choice . Everybody raved about his signing. In reality he was a squad filler just like Whyte, Day and Vassell

If he cant get in ahead of Bacuna who let's be honest is Average at best then he has problems

Can’t tackle that’s for sure.

I never raved about him as I’d never really seen him play.

It’s a long season and I’m sure he’ll get his chance. When he does he needs to grab it with two hands and make it his own. It’s up to him.

Vaulks is much more of a CAM than he is a CM. I don't see him being a regular in that deeper spot, but I'm also surprised Warnock hasn't been using him properly at all so far.

On the basis that in Warnocks own words when we bought him "he is right up my street. He is a box to box player who scores goals but can also play in front of the back four. I feel he can go up another level"

If he was merely bought as a squad player rather than an automatic choice then this means that until the last day when we got Pack, Warnock had not replaced one of our three first choice midfielders that we lost in April. If so that is shocking .

I didn't go to Blackburn but have seen everyone other of Bacuna's performances in a Cardiff shirt and apart from a brief cameo at Southampton and an OK game on Wednesday I cant see it. He had an absolute shocker at Reading.

Didn't see Blackburn but have seen every other game by him and really not impressed with him. He was OK against Huddesfield but was shocking against Reading.

I think Warnock bigs up all new signings..as for him not having replaced, that's what happened last season too with Arter and Camarasa arriving very late. yes Bacuna was poor in Reading but I thought he tried very hard and the more the game was running away from us the more he tried to force things/the worse he looked..i did think Vaulks was worse than him..tbh I hope they both improve.

I would imagine it is only once a player starts training with his new team that the manager can properly evaluate his true worth to the club. Prior to that, what has he to go on ? Scouting reports, YouTube clips, gut instinct maybe.

Unless you're signing the finished product like a Camerasa for instance, it is always going to be a bit of a gamble, especially when those players come from lower league teams.

I'm not convinced that Warnock has an eye for a 'footballer' or maybe I'm doing him a disservice and he has got one but for whatever reason (financial, player issues etc) they don't end up at our club.

It will be interesting if, once NW leaves the club, there is a noticeable step up in quality of our new recruits. Meanwhile we live in hope that some if not all of this summer's signings become good enough to establish themselves in the first team.

Vaulks was dreadful at Reading - Yards off the pace

Vaulks got back the quickest for the first goal and was made to look at fault because no one got back to cover behind him. It was his first and only start of the season. Even the Reading manager said he hoped that Puskas would knock it past him because he could see a huge gap behind him. I don't know whether he is any good but I was expecting him to be a first choice start given that before Pack came he was the only midfield signing we had made and we had lost three first choice starters.

His defending for that goal was pathetic don’t try and make excuses about cover.
