Just seen a stat that Newport have the most clean sheets in 2019 across the EFL and PL. Maybe a good replacement for when Neil moves on?

Really ?!!

Flynn has worked wonders at County - I wish him and County well this season .
Moving forward NW is still in charge and when the day comes ... someone like Flynn would be a good call .

Think he nearly got the Shrewsbury job in the league above last year, but Sam Ricketts got it ahead of him.
Would want to see how he'd do at a League One club before making the step up to this level.
Sat Aug 24, 2019 9:32 pm
If he was not managing a Welsh club he wouldn't be on anyone's radar to replace NW.
We really need someone like Chris Hughton, who has proved successful at our level. Even possibly Fulham's manager who got them promoted.
Whoever takes over it will be a gamble but I doubt if the board are likely to be overly adventurous in their choice.
Hopefully when NW goes Steve Bruce will still be gainfully employed as I would hate to see him installed as our new manager. What a nightmare that would be !

Replacement for NW,Flynny is for Cardiff as Hitler was for world peace.

Silly for anybody to even think about a replacement considering we don’t even know what league we will be playing in next year.
Just enjoy this season first

The club should be identifying a short list now though, including looking at our recruitment policy team.
More bodies with football experience are desperately needed to support our next manager.

Not sure I can agree with that. NW has stated he is leaving at the end of the season so someone will have to replace him then. As much as I hate saying it the Jacks are past masters at lining up replacement managers and have a 90% success rate in doing so. Therefore we should be planning ahead and not waiting for the problem to land on our plate next May.
Michael Flynn certainly comes onto the radar as he is doing one hell of a job at Newport and it would be silly to ignore him.

Silly for people not to think about a replacement to my mind.
In eight months or before he’ll be gone. It certainly gets me thinking of who will replace him as it definitely should with the Cardiff City board!
Thinking this way doesn’t detract from enjoying the season either.

Mmm.
I'm sure Stoke thought that after his lower league success with Luton that Nathan Jones would be a forward thinking appointment but it sometimes managers like players have a certain level that they are comfortable and above which they struggle.
Of course if they are not given the opportunity we'll never know and he's certainly done a good job at Newport so far.
Certainly worth thinking about but I'd prefer him to have a bit more experience in a division higher than League 2.

Agree that I’d like jokanovic but I don’t think he’d come.
I think you’re underestimating Flynn. Two consecutive FA Cup runs where they’ve gone close to or beaten teams in much higher divisions I think shows he knows how to set up a team.

We have taken a chance on lower league players this season do we really want to take a chance on a lower league manager aswell?

Good point monty.
I’d prefer and I think we would need a more experienced manager to get out of the championship than a league 2 manager.
Provided we don’t go up this year

ORIGINAL GRANGE END BLUE
in all honesty mate looking at all our games so far we are way off any promotion and no new recruits till january we have had some bad luck to start ethridge pack out, and a striker yet to break his duck,
and a transitional period on the horizon in our quest for a new manager its going to be a bumpy ride not what a lot where expecting lets just hope we get a bit of luck and put a run together sooner rather than later, leeds swansea fulham aghhhhh.
Sun Aug 25, 2019 8:12 pm
We should be aiming much higher then him.
We don’t need to be going for managers who have had three good seasons with Newport.
We can and should get a proven decent manager. Let’s not forget the last two we had before Warnock. It will end the same way.

Love it how people go on and on and on ...about never done it at this level - without even having the chance to do so.
Whoever the player is or manager etc....
Sad to say this but - look at the guy down the road in west wales - started well but who is he ??
Never managed at this level before or higher for that matter .
Sun Aug 25, 2019 10:16 pm
All those saying it’s silly not thinking about how many would even consider him if we were prem next year?
That’s why it’s silly even thinking about as we have no idea where we will playing next season yet.

They guy down the road has won a World Cup.
He’s also only played five games so far.
Why do we need to take risks on managers from the likes of Newport we can attract proven managers at this level the suggestions are just ridiculous.

Good job done at County but too much of a risk imo ....Houghton is a good shout but who knows who will be available ....prefer Chris Coleman if he was interested

Why you want a Jack in Coleman who has been a massive failure of every club he has managed other than Fulham?

To my knowledge I would imagine that the percentage of managers stepping up from Div 2 to successfully manage a Championship side and gain promotion to the PL is infinitesimal.
As I said earlier, Michael Flynn would not even be on our radar if he wasn't Cwnty's manager. It's not as if his team are ripping up their division is it ?
Unfortunately our managerial scouting system is as non-existant as it's player counterpart, so the prospect of us unearthing a gem seems rather remote.
On the plus side, the club's profile has increased significantly during recent times, so there should be no shortage of quality applicants.

I agree Tony. Our club should have been actively succession planning the end of last season,,,, certainly since the moment NW's decision to "retire" at the end of this season. Personally I wouldn't wait that long, & we need someone in well before the seasons end in order to positively progress.
I dont know, but if the rumours are true, then maybe there is someone presently at our club, being groomed to take on the reins?

City will surely look for an experienced manager with top division experience.
I know some inexperienced ones do well but look eg at Nathan Jones.
