Smithies to blame

Not sure if I’m being too harsh but I thought Smithies could have saved Chalobah’s shot last night. Admittedly the defenders didn’t help by standing off but the shot didn’t appear to be struck that hard. I’m thinking Etheridge would have pushed that round the post but maybe that’s being over critical?

We need Etheridge back in the side as quickly as possible

Defence more solid with Etheridge behind them :ayatollah:

Unfortunately we’re stuck with him and Day until October

Thought at the time he could have done better but it was also very poor defending.

Generally thought he did well last night though. I guess he will need time to rediscover some form having not played for so long.

He's still making the odd mistake but he's certainly looking better game by game.

There was one quick throw out yesterday that we've been needing for years and it resulted in Murphy gaining us 70 yards. I think I'd still prefer Etheridge but Smithies is starting to look like a good back-up at the very least

His kicking was excellent, seemed to actually be aiming for a player and reaching them regularly. Players obviously a lot more confident in passing back to him as well.

Certainly better in that aspect. watching the goal back i think he definitely could have done better, etheridge has been beaten near side on several occasions however, so not as confident as others that he would have saved it. but overall im still glad hes in the team now and hope he improves to a level that warnock wont know what to do come october.

Our defence is shocking atm .
Not sure if that’s also down to the protection of midfield aswell .

He also made two massive saves

Don’t think he was to blame. If you watch the defender, he was trying to keep him off his stronger right foot so I think it’s just a lucky strike with the left boot. :banghead:

Fans blamed day now its smithies turn! Ok shouldn't get beaten at near post but the angle made it almost impossible to keep out as to close to post..

the goal was extremely poor ,hit/scuffed from 20 yards was not powerful and didn't hit the corner .
seen other keepers blamed for far less. not sure you can be blaming defenders if your keeper is leaving those in.
hope your right about rustiness.

People are forgetting that it was Joe Ralls who let the ball run into the path of the Huddersfield scorer without even making an attempt to take possession of the ball & play it. Huddersfield should not have had the ball in that area.

Yes the player shouldn’t have been allowed to get a shot away however who gave him or allowed him to have the ball in the first place?

not at all , Joe seems to freeze and second guess what he should be doing a few times every game which is a shame.. but the shot was from 20 yards did not hit a corner and had very little zip..

Very weak goal to concede all around. A lot of players should of done better.

They’ve lost that little bit of desire imo, last two seasons somebody would of busted a gut an blocked that shot no problem.

The most passion I’ve seen so far this season has been Sol Bamba when the full time whistle went on Wednesday I think we need him back on that pitch.

Not in corner? It was very close to post along ground he shot with wrong foot it was a surprise shot! He should never have been allowed space to shoot blaming keeper for defensive shortcomings is easy to do..
