I think last night he showed some glimpses of what he can offer on the wing but I thought he went missing a hell of a lot when he lost the ball, only saw him track back a few times which left Bennet overloaded on occasion by 3-1, Morrison, Bacunna and Ralls ended up helping him on a few occasions.
Think Murphy needs to have a kick up the arse and be reminded that his job is not just about attacking, he has to track back and help out when we lose the ball.
Thought he was juvenile at times laying on the floor just staring at the ref, not saying he didn’t deserve to win a few free kicks as he did and he was very luck he wasn’t seriously hurt from that high foot towards the end of the match, just think he needs to toughen up a bit get up after a tackle, stop going down so easily and put a proper shift in. I don’t think his heads been right since the Bournemouth home game last season.

Thought he'd rip up the championship
Did ok but more to come from him

What’s the point of him playing well, when Warnock drops him for the next game anyway.

He gets dropped due to the circumstances outlined in the opening post - he disappears for large parts of games and is far too inconsistent to expect to start every game.

Yet other players keep their places week in week out.

Murphy is a talent and has something but his work rate, body language and petulance let's him down.
If at the other end he was delivering game after game he could get away with it but he doesnt. Goals, crosses assists? No where near enough to warrant his all round attitude.

To me he has 3 modes.
Brilliant
Woeful
Jog mode
Spends more time jogging and woeful, its clear hes got the ability to roast most of the full backs in the league.

last night i think he got frustrated and in the end didnt really give 110%, more often he would get the ball and look to create something, but a lack of movement and any idea in the final third often meant his efforts went to waste, and you could see as the game went on, he became frustrated and just seemed to lack interest

I don’t know what you watch, I really don’t.
He was great again last night. Definitely not a performance to warrant a negative post.
He should have had an assist on 45 minutes with an assist for Bennett who should have buried it. He should have gotten an assist when he played Glatzel through on goal only for Glatzel to badly miss a one on 1. And he finally got an assist when he played a brilliant ball to Hoilett who diagonally ran around the defender and then got his goal.
Really, as much as Murphy should have scored last night, through no fault of his own he should have had 3 assists. What do you guys watch? Can’t believe Murphy AND Whyte have specific negative posts, for completely opposite reasons! Whyte because people claim he didn’t show much ability, and Murphy because he didn’t show much work rate. Get a grip and watch the game back, you were obviously in pilot mode, not Murphy.

I thought he was great last night, never stopped running at the defence, didn't always come off but that's part of being a winger.

Hes hot and cold thats what makes him frustrating because when hes hot he is easily the best player at the club and can skin players and get a good shot off or can put in dangerous crosses.
But he does just as much walking around, not getting back, making pathetic passes, falling over easy and i know im not the only one who thought it, the other 5k+ people around me thought the same shouting at him to run and get back instead of letting the opposition just walk up with the ball.
If he can be more consistant we would be such more dangerous team and you will never see a bad post about him even if he made the odd mistake

His final ball is dreadful and he needs to work on this along with the defensive side of the game

the 5k around me were to busy creaming themselves everytime Tomlin touched the ball, even when he lost it or messed up they would get stupidly excited, very odd but just shows how desperate we have been for someone to try and get the ball down to play it.

we did win last night right?
All im seeing on here is posts about Murphy, Glaztel, Whyte, Smithies and Bacuna not being good enough

You could copy and paste Peter Whittingham into this post but he was a club legend. You can’t win.

We barely won against a very poor team with a deflected goal.
Don’t let the result mask the four bad performances so far this season

Murphy did more in the first 20 minutes against Luton than some players have done in the last 2 games. He is one of Cardiff’s main threats & he is a match winner. His finishing wasn’t good against Luton where he could have had 3 in the first 20 mins.
Again last night he was a major threat going forward highlighted in an excellent shot in the 2nd minute forcing the keeper into an excellent save. He also had countless shots after that. He is excellent taking defences on & he has a decent cross. I would suggest that at the moment he is our best attacking threat. Linked up really well with Glatzel in that first game. There is no comparison between Murphy & Whyte. Early days but at the moment Whyte looks like a League 1 player.
Murphy might go missing for the odd 5 mins but as an attacking threat he should be starting every game.

Goals and assists!
Murphy doesn't.
Can beat a man as easy as he himself is beaten.
No end product way too often.

the ball he played to junior for the winning goal was pretty decent..

The decisions he makes in attacking positions are always wrong. Always looking to be the hero.
OP is right, too often he ignores defensive responsibilities.

mostly agree but he did well surrounded by 3 Huddersfield players to make room see juniors run and play the ball. not sure many of our other players { who generally had better games } could have done that.

For me he's easily our most potent attacking threat with his pace and trickery, but it can also be said defensively he is found wanting. He does tend to stand 10 yards off his man, and this puts pressure on the left back.
Seems to be a confidence player in that if things don't go his way early in the game he tends to wilt later on. Tends to cut inside rather than go to the byline and look for a cross.
However he is young and a raw talent so hopefully will work on his weaknesses.
