Could he have done better with the goal? I've only seen it once.
But made a couple of good saves and his handling and distribution is on another level to Etheridge's, you could tell players were happy to pass it back and even throw it back to him.

Say should never get beaten at near post but in his defence it was a daisy cutter and inches from post and player shot totally unexpectedly from behind player, give him benefit of doubt and call it a good strike

Is there such a thing as the near post when a guy shoots from the middle of the pitch 25 yards out?
Initial reaction was he could have done better but haven't seen it back since.
For balance, I thought he was very smartly off his line when grant went through in injury time

Could have done better perhaps but it wasn't a howler.
He'll always get stick when he plays, due to the fact that Etheridge is a decent shot stopper.

Just watched it back, yeah it was more "near post" than I thought and quite soft. Not great defensively either

Should have saved it. As for whoever said his handling is much better than Etheheride
His handling is awful as showed against Reading. Decent enough back up keeper though still rate Day as the better of the two back ups but both are nowhere near as good as Etheridge who will be straight back in whenfit.

He's obviously going to be a bit rusty having been back up for so long.
Yesterday he collected everything and used the ball well. I'm expecting him to get better and better the more he gets games.

He certainly had a better game than Butland anyway

Smithies is by far better at distributing the ball than Etheridge, and he can even release a quick throw.
As much as I like Etheridge; his distribution is a major flaw in his game, whereas Smithies might not be as good a shot stopper but does pull off some good saves.

I’d have to watch the goal again, but overall he’s looking more composed between the sticks and undoubtedly is a talented goalkeeper. He’s obviously rusty regarding minutes at this level of high intensity football, but given a run will be excellent for us. My concern is that by the time he’s found his form, Ethridge will be nearly back.
