Gary Madine

Gary Madine

Games: 20, Goals: 0 (2018-present)

The most recent disappointment in the striking department has been Gary Madine. The Bluebirds splashed out £6m to acquire his services from Bolton back in 2018 as the club bolstered their attacking stable ahead of another Premier League campaign.

But when Christmas came around Madine had only 32 minutes of Premier League football under his belt and, crucially, no goals. Having watched on from the bench as the Bluebirds fell to a 3-0 defeat by Tottenham in January, he jumped at the opportunity for more game-time by sealing a move to Sheffield United.

He scored three goals in 16 games as the Blades won promotion to the Premier League and at the back end of last season he was hopeful of making his stay at Bramall Lane permanent.

It wasn't to be, however, and he returned to south Wales – indeed Neil Warnock gave him the nod on the opening day against Wigan this season.

Crucially, however, as it stands Madine still has time to improve that unquestionably bleak goalscoring record for Cardiff City. Whether he secures a move away to a different league or country by the end of the month is another question.

I honestly believe he doesn't want to be here and would prefer to move back up north. When you're heart isn't in something the chances of producing your best is zilch.

I'm afraid due to his wages and lack of goals he will be here until his contract runs out.

A colossal waste of a transfer fee and wages.

Hopefully he'll get a move to a League 1 team before the end of the window which is about his level although no doubt we'll be burdened with his wages for the rest of his contract.

Did nothing in his career before signing for us to suggest that he was worth even one sixth of the money we squandered on him.

I thought he was alright at Wigan, may have got an assist if Reid had his mind fully on the game and not getting out of here

" ... recent disappointment... "

He's been an unmitigated disappointment since Jan 2018 some 18 months ago.

Agree and if Sheff Utd wanted him they would have asked - after all they paid good money for strikers this season .
