How many players are allowed in our squad as I've read it's only 25 players, but our list is showing 26?

I thought that as well but it appears that is not the case. However, there are rules of 'home grown players' (6 must be named in the match day squad) plus now there is also a 'club developed' requirement of 1 player in each match day squad.

"Each EFL club will need to include one “club-developed” player in their match day squad, who will be defined as a player who has been registered with their current team for at least 12 months prior to the end of their U19 season. Should a club fail to name such a player, they will only be able to name 6 substitutes rather than the normal allocation of 7"

I wonder if this why Ciaron Brown is in the squad and why Greg Cunningham was allowed to leave?

Cunningham left because he wanted to leave to play more regular football.

True Cunningham did want to leave to play more but maybe having Ciaron Brown to step in as the 'club developed' match day player made the decision easier to make.
