Why is everyone panicking?

Thu Aug 08, 2019 8:18 pm

We've added attacking options and Pack will give us the steel and organisation we need to replace Gunnarsson. I'm a little concerned about our lack of cover at both full back positions, but overall I'm more than happy with what we've got:

Goalkeepers - Etheridge, Smithies, Day

Defenders - Morrison, Flint, Bamba, Bennett, Peltier, Nelson, Connolly, Richards, Coxe

Midfielders - Pack, Ralls, Vaulks, Bacuna, Paterson, Tomlin, Damour

Wingers - Murphy, Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Whyte

Strikers - Glatzel, Vassell, Ward, Bogle, Madine

Looks like a squad capable of challenging to me. Plenty of strength in depth and versatility to cover several positions.

It's disappointing to lose Reid, but he was never going to play his best football with us. I'm confident we have good enough attacking options to score goals and I think Vassell will become a huge fan favourite. He will be a refreshing contrast to Zohore, he will work the defenders, chase lost causes and frighten defenders with his pace. He will become a real handful with his pace, power and work rate.

A 6'2 Pack sitting in front of a 6'4 Morrison and a 6'6 Flint gives us a very solid base to work with. We aren't going to be the soft touch we were at Wigan, that's for sure!

I can't understand some of the comments one game into the season. I seem to remember the same sort of posts the last time we were here. Up my local earlier, and while most of the City regulars were not exactly jumping for joy, most were reasonably satisfied that we have a competitive squad that can give it a go.

I forgot about Ciaron Brown. He came on at left back against Nice and didn't look out of place at all. Hopefully, Warnock has high hopes for Brown to allow Cunningham to leave. Just realised he played 5 games on loan for Livingston in the SPL last season as well and he seemed to do very well up there. :ayatollah:

Im happy with the pack signing, experience and steel and leadership in the centre of the park hopefully. Just need that creativity added in there now i hope tomlin can be the magic man, other than that maybe callum paterson can burst forward and score us goals there again :ayatollah:

A good summary and I can’t argue with any of that and I’m looking forward to the Luton game.

In answer to your question, lots on here have unrealistic expectations and don’t understand how our club and our manager work.
Lots expected £20mill players to come in on 50+ grand a week ffs.

Personally, I’m a little disappointed as I expected a bit more quality in the midfield area especially but I’m happy and good to go!

Think most of us wanted
A top quality midfielder and striker
A show of intent.

Im not too bothered about reid
Going,, its the lack of engine and pace right
Down the middle that will
Be out achillies (again)

I wouldnt play morrison and flint together
Id like nelson to play.
Hope tomlin stays now and is not bumped to a div 1 club or rotting in reserves.

Bacuna and ralls not the answer in the middle.

My team now

Smithies
Pelts
Flint/morrison
Nelson
Bennett

Pack

Whyte tomlin murphy

Patterson

Glatzer

Because we have no pace at the back, and our players generally struggle to pass to one another. Morrison and Flint are slow, and Warnock likes to play hoofball. Ralls is a liability, and open himself up to a red card every game. These are issues that are real, and could have been sorted out over the Summer.

I hope the new players prove me wrong, but NW has failed to get the best out of half of his new signings thus far.

I will be panicking if madine starts saturdays game, and completly mystified with glatzen, bogle, vassell, now as our main strikers, we went about zohore lack of goals and effort but madine for me is a shocking striker and should not be even on the bench he still has' nt scored after that missed penalty against wolves and he still got the nod at burnley to start as our main threat, confused.

Like I said yesterday, everyone has completely different opinions. I read one thread yesterday where a poster had Ralls as one of our top two players. You (and me) obviously don't agree with that, but that does not mean he is wrong and we are right. Just proves that on a public forum, we all have different views and the manager is therefore bound to be criticised by some fans, while others are going to sing his praises. That's public media for you, and I think you get most of the critics on a forum like this, as when I'm at the ground or in a local pub, attitudes tend to be a lot different.

Two of those three players started at Wigan so why were we a soft touch there?

plenty of fancied teams are often a soft touch in the very early games of a season. All the sides relegated from the PL lost, but that does not mean they will finish below the sides they lost to. We always see some strange results in all the divisions during the first couple of weeks of a season.

Yeah and I'm far from panicking. The squad isn't as good as last time we went up though. Not at the moment anyway with plenty of question marks above a lot of players

New defensive partnership didnt help also didnt have holding midfielder like we have now and finally no new new striker we have now? Must presume they will all play tomorrow? So dont expect to be a soft touch in future

Glad to see a positive post after the number of tweets and messages I've seen!

I do think Reid is a loss as he is the type of player who will stand out at this level. However, this is Warnock football we are playing where the team has to be physical and fit enough to get back into shape and defend. Would Reid do that in the no.10 role consistently? I'm not sure.
Very happy signing Pack as he has plenty of experience at this level and should take that centre/defensive mid role in his stride. The centre midfield looks immediately better than the weekend with that signing.

I do think this season may be tougher than the year we went up despite Wolves (Best team ever in the Championship?) and Fulham being very strong. I think there's a lot of 'footballing' teams with pace which could punish our now slower back 4. No Manga a big reason and Bamba injured.

With Warnock we always have a chance and got to back the boys all the way, one thing we know, they will not go down without a fight. Up the Bluebirds :bluebird: :bluebird:
