Is this team better or worse than the 17/18 team?

The market is done now, and I look at this Cardiff team and can only say that it's gone backwards. Our whole strategy was to go up to the premier league, maintain a nucleus of the team and add players here or there as and when needed. Of the 4 players we bought when we went up Cunningham has gone on loan and Reid we have sold for almost the exact amount he came for. Arter and Camarasa have gone and not been replaced. Gunnarson, Bruno and Zohore have all gone. So what was the strategy?

We spent a minor amount when in the premier league, and I have no doubt that we made a profit on player sales this year. So what was this rubbish about conserving our team in the championship, when all I have seen is quality players leave and risks and gambles come back in. I didnt expect the club to push and spend substantial sums, but I did expect us to keep our best players.

I was very vocal on wanting to keep Warnock for this season and I still think he is the best manager the club has ever had, however after this market I definitely think him staying this year hasnt benefitted the long term future of the club.

In two transfer markets the team has hardly changed:

Etheridge - Etheridge
Peltier - Peltier
Bruno - Flint
Morrison - Morrison
Bennett - Bennett
Gunnarson - Bacuna
Ralls - Ralls
Paterson - Paterson
Mendez - Mendez
Hoilett - Murphy
Zohore - Glatzel

For me our first 11 now isnt as good as our first 11 then. I really think we will struggle to get play offs as things stand.

You could of put bamba against bruno
Hoilett is still with us
Glatzel needs to score more than one goal to be an improvement on zohore
And we now have voulks as well as bacuna instead of gunnerson
Not sure why you believe we are weaker?

On paper I think it’s better if Glatzel turns out to be the goal scorer he was in Germany last year.

I was sorry to see Manga go and Flint may be good but he’s not Manga and Nelson seems well rated.

Pack is better than Gunnarson, we have Mendez-Laing and Hoilett still backed up (or replaced) by Whyte and Murphy. Volkes will challenge Ralls so I think we’re OK.

The trouble is, the other clubs may be stronger on the face of it.

Pack is no way better then Gunners

Its probably about the same and definitely capable of promotion, via the play offs. Gunnar is the biggest miss imo and we’ll miss Manga’s pace at the back but I’m sure Nelson can fill in against the quicker sides. Vaulks/ Pack/ Ralls will make a decent trio in midfield. Bacuna is solid backup. Whilst a fit Tomlin will hopefully be like a new signing. As long as Glatzel puts the effort in, he’ll already be more effective than Ken has been recently. Our options on the wings are probably some of the best in the league whilst we’ve arguably got the best keeper. Just annoyed that we still haven’t addressed the right back situation. I’m optimistic, but if we don’t go up, then we haven’t put massive pressure on ourselves by spending stupid money like Villa did or when we last went down.

Not sure, some area's better some worse imo.

GK - I think Etheridge is a better GK than he was 2 years ago
CB - Weaker imo as Bamba is 2 years older and we've lost Manga and replaced him with Sean Morrison 2.0
RB/LB - The same I guess as no change there but worried about lack of depth.
CM - About the same but still a weakness as proven during the promotion season as we had to go and get Grujic (id kill for a player like him right now)
RW/LW - Stronger as I think Mendez is more consistent and we have Murphy, Hoilett and Whyte which is better than last time
ST - Stronger as surely Glatzel is better than Zohore in our promotion season who scored 7-9 goals in 30 something games.

Still not as strong as we should be though as we have just come from the prem, we shouldn't really even be debating

I hope the striker will be better (albeit different) option to Zohore and Imho Gunnar was a passenger in many games for last 2 seasons and Pack will be an adequate replacement there. We’ve got Voukes in there now too plus Paterson.
We’ve lost Harris but gained Murphy and the Irish lad.
Lost Manga but gained Nelson.
I’d say we’re at least on a par or maybe a little better than last time in championship.

We've no back up for bennet, still no right back (peltier should be a back up to someone better) no creative midfielder like camarasa was, and more importantly, have you seen some of the signings the other teams in our division have made???
