Chris Gunter?

Available on loan or for a small fee, is he better than Peltier? :ayatollah:

No. Peltier did well in the prem but he can’t attack, whereas Gunter had a poor season in the championship overall, if were Gunna get a right back, let’s make it a good one not one that’s basically the same level as Richards/Coxe/Pelts

Nope, he's everything a lo of people moan about on here and if he wasn't 'known' to City/Wales fans, he would be dismissed out of hand

Apart from that, many (including me) haven't forgotten his comments/antics after he originally left us thinking he'd made the 'big time' with Spurs :(

What comments would they be then? He was treated like dirt by the club at the time.

We should have got him back years ago. A very underrated and consistent RB would take him as first choice over Peltier.

No thanks.

Re: Chris Gunter?

If he had never been a City player and we were looking to get him here, most people on this forum would be talking about our total lack of ambition. Was a decent player in his day, but that day has gone.

Would need to be really desperate to sign Gunter. Now League 1 level?

Played for a long time in the Championship, never made it to the top & lived on the fact he played for Wales. (No longer 1st choice). Would be a very poor signing & a step backwards for the club.

Never made it to the top?

3 seasons in the Premier League
Euro 2016 semi finalist
95caps
Wales most capped player
Welsh player of the year
Captained his country.

Yep never made it that's a crap CV.

I know some of our fans are clueless. We desperately need another RB and Gunter is a superior player too Peltier. We should have signed him when Reading did for 2.5 mill from Forest could have solved a lot of problems we have had in that area since McNaughton.

Gunter may not be flashy but he is very solid and reliable at championship level. Much better than Peltier.

Firstly, I am not clueless. Secondly many fans are living in the past. Gunter started his Wales career in a poor Wales team. He is no longer first choice right back & he is past his best. I agree Peltier needs replacing but not with a player who is no better! Just because someone who has a different opinion it doesn’t make them “clueless”.

“3 seasons in the Premier League” - Played 5 games for Spurs in 2 seasons & 20 games in a poor Reading team.
Captained country - irrelevant Manager’s choice
Euro 16 semi finalist - part of a successful team
95 caps - I could be right back if there is no competition you will keep your place.

I don’t think that is reaching the top!

He left us in 2008 for Spurs, wouldn’t re-sign him as there are better options out there

“3 Seasons in the Premier League” - 25 games (20 of those in a poor Reading team)
Euro semi finalist - Part of a successful TEAM
95 Caps - If I was RB & had no competition I could get 95 caps.
Captained his country- Manager’s choice

I certainly don’t regard those stats as making it to the top.

Should have said 25 Premier League games (20 of those in a poor Reading team) out of 435 League appearances!

What, am I supposed to be swayed by that interview with Vince within 24 hours of him signing for Spurs? :?

Methinks not! Go do some proper research and you may well find the answers. The truth is out there and Gunter not only said some disparaging things but was also disrespectful to the crowd by his actions when in a Reading shirt at Cardiff :(

You make an accusation then somebody asks about it and you tell them research it themselves.

Why not just tell them?

You think somebody playing for spurs in the premier league (26 starts in all competitions for spurs plus 18 as sub) hasn't made it.

How can you chuck in "poor reading team " they were playing in the premier league.

I'll assume you think current Cardiff players are failures then.

Doesn't matter he started in a poor Wales team, would you use that to bash Giggs, Bale, Ramsey, Bellamy?

I don't want you to be swayed by anything. A youtube video is more than you can come up with though obviously.

I can guarantee you that its one transfer than I know plenty more about than you ever will.

He was offered a new contract and it was pulled by Jones because of a mistake made in the game at Norwich away (may have been that he got he sent off) in the September.

He was dragged into a meeting at the club along with his agent and told that despite spending 6 months prior promising a new contract, that because of his performance at Norwich they would no longer honour it. There's a load of other stuff that happened in that meeting that isnt for a public forum.

He continued to request for a new contract for the next few months and the club kept refusing. As soon as Spurs came in they basically gave him away.

As for his actions in a Reading shirt. I think you are referring to when he played for Forest. When the Ninian Stand abused him all game and he gave a bit back? Good on him. I'd expect Bobby Reid to do the same if we were playing Bristol. Gunter is an all or nothing player, his biggest talent is his work rate. He has never said anything however that in my mind is disrespectful towards CCFC.

As for signing him, I'm not bothered either way. I'd rather someone with more pace but we def need some cover and he could be a cheap option whilst we use the cash elsewhere.

I note that you posted this yesterday, the day that you joined the Forum? Are you a genuine City fan or joined up for another reason?

Chris Gunter is not a “top” player. Please get your facts right re Spurs games. He only played for Spurs 5 times in the Premier League & he didn’t play the full 90 mins in any of those games! Mostly used as a sub. So that makes him a top player?

Has he played Champions League football?
Has he won countless trophies with a top 6 team?
Has he played hundreds of games in the Premier League?
So you put him in the same bracket as Messi, Ronaldo, etc?
Would Gunter have played 1 game for England?
Are you Chris Gunter or his agent?
Played 25 games in PL (many as a sub) & 410 games in the Championship!
