How many more in by the Thursday deadline?

Tue Aug 06, 2019 7:11 pm

I would say three, Warnock must be desperate to win another promotion, and he spotted a few weaknesses last week, I reckon he will bust a gut for at least three if some leave maybe even four?

How many more donkeys can Warnock find.

Ideally

1 decent keeper
2 full backs
1 Centre half with pace
2 midfielders (1 defensive, 1 creative)
1 striker

:laughing6: :laughing6:

All players must be able to go straight into the first team and not be "one for the future" or lower league gambles.

I know we haven't managed to get what we need so far in the months that the window has been open but we've still got two days left!

I'd say two, just a guess though. I on loan and one permanent, a desperate last minute signing to bolster the squad with a player from some League 1 team's reserves! I thought we started well signing Vaulks, Day and Nelson as squad players, but we have spent £7.5m on two players, one from German division 2and one from League 1. I thought we'd do better this summer.

I'm not sure if it's Warnock's fault in not getting quality players, or maybe he's under orders not to spend too much and reduce the wage bill? He did say some would have to go first but still can't unload Connolly, Tomlin, Madine, Bogle, Cunningham,. Smithies or Damour. Little time left to get rid of any of these and sign new players given the deadline is two days away.

2 in and we can push top 6

3 good first team players needed for a top 2 push but that's not going to happen at this stage.

Cardiff City head into the final days of the transfer window with several key issues still to resolve.

As well as their bid for new recruits, questions still remain over the future of several Bluebirds stars.

Here's what's likely to happen over the course the next 48 hours.

THE STRIKER SEARCH

Having already sealed a move for Robert Glatzel, Cardiff seemed supremely confident of getting another attacking option on board before the close of the window.

However, a bid for that fabled 'mystery striker' from abroad, believed to be Le Havre's Alimami Gory, appears to have fallen through, and City are set to explore other options.
One of those could well be Birmingham City's Isaac Vassell.

Reports have already suggested that he could be the man Cardiff will turn to before the window closes, and there's likely to be movement on that deal one way or the other soon.
Cardiff have already been linked to the likes of Connor Wickham in this window and, more recently, Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah, although the two names have seemingly been dismissed as a possibility.

Britt Assombalonga, Ibrahima Niane and Bobby Wood were also thrown into the mix, but again the level of Cardiff's interest was greatly exaggerated and, in some cases, totally wrong.

Neil Warnock still wants a back-up to Glatzel, someone also capable of playing a little deeper.

Vassell would potentially fit that bill.

However, defeat on the opening day of the season has also shone a light on other areas of the team in need of addressing.
TURNING ATTENTION TO MIDFIELD

With that in mind, it's understood that Cardiff are also keen on beefing up their midfield options ahead of the new season.

The loss to Wigan on the opening day pointed to some very real shortcomings in the centre of the park.

The Latics took control of the midfield far too easily at the DW Stadium, leaving some to conclude that this team is crying out for a midfield general capable of grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck.

Some Cardiff fans believe that new signing Will Vaulks could step up to play that role. But even with the Wales midfielder on board, Warnock has identified the engine room as an area in need of strengthening.

Events on Saturday made it a more pressing concern, it seems.
City had initially identified Bordeaux's Younousse Sankhare as an option, only to decide against making a move due to concerns over his attitude. He's now likely to join Spanish side Leganes.

A return for Harry Arter was also mentioned, although the chances of that happening always looked unlikely given his tie-up with Fulham boss Scott Parker, which was an important factor in bringing him to Craven Cottage.

Needless to say, the departures of Arter and Aron Gunnarsson have left a hole in the centre of Warnock's midfield and he may not feel that the gap has been plugged adequately enough ahead of the new season.

We've had three months to try to address the glaring deficincies up front and in the middle of the park and so far have only really put a sticking plaster over those particular wounds.

Any more signings that come in between now and the end of the window will be nothing more than panic buys or loans.

Like Madine and Bacuna.

I agree I don't understand why with 2 days left we still haven't addressed issues such as RB and CM which we've known about since last January. We knew after the failure to capture Almamy Toure and Clyne last January that that was a problem position that needed addressing in the summer and the same with CM, we've known that Gunnars was leaving and that Arter and Camarasa were loans so why with 2 days to go haven't we addresses this when they (club/Warnock) have had months to do this instead of scrambling around last mins.

Have a little patience and let's see what happens by tomorrow evening before whingeing and making things up, eh?

There are many reasons players are bought/sold near the window end and brinksmanship is the order of the day. Many clubs, including City, will want to get players out before they bring others in and others get them in before they let them out

City themselves want a few in but also want a few out; seemingly Madine, Tomlin, etc. for starters
