He’s still miles too good for the championship.

These are the types of gambles that pay off

Not a chance.

Not a chance, you say?

Now being reported via BBC, Sky Sports, one saying that he’s on his way over to finalise the move!

They could have given Cocu at least a chance before getting rid of him after 1 match in charge!

Don’t worry we’re signing some kid from Le Havre. Ambition, hey.

Wow. Seen that he's landed at Heathrow.

How on earth are Derby affording this? (if it happens)

True. Much maligned by our toxic sanctimonious media but a fantastic player. He’d look good in a Cardiff shirt.

Was never fully appreciated by England in my view. Despite breaking scoring records.

Would be a cracking player at this level. His “football brain” is miles ahead of any player in this league

What a brilliant signing for Derby.
I’d put Leeds and Derby one and two by the end of the season. This is an incredible coup for them :bluebird:

ROONEY TO DERBY: REPORTER BULLETIN

06/08/19

Let's get the latest from Sky Sports News' Rob Dorsett, who says this one is moving quickly...

"My understanding is that talks only happened a couple of days ago - this has all happened very quickly. Mel Morris heard about the opportunity a few days ago. He heard Rooney was not too settled in terms of family in the US; that even though he signed a new three-year deal that has two years left to run, there was some scope for that to be overturned. It's an extraordinary story.

"Coleen, his wife, and children haven't settled easily and been keen to look for a route back to England. Their home in Cheshire is not that far from Derby so geographically and for family reasons it suits but, I'm told, there are professional reasons as well. He's taking his coaching badges and has said publicly that he wants to go into coaching so this seems an ideal way of combining both. Learning from Phillip Cocu is also a draw; he was very impressed with Cocu's countryman, Louis van Gaal when he was in charge at Old Trafford.

"Derby think they're getting a bargain and someone who can inspire too, while Rooney can prolong his career and get coaching experience. It's a win-win."

Just seen on the sky website saying he will agree a deal but then go back to finish the mls season and come back in January !

This will either be a masterstroke by derby or a total flop.

Dont forget hes been over in America playing poor teams and players, he will need to get up to speed again and also learn a new league in the championship. He will be a big target for opposing players.
It could backfire just as easily as it could be a quality signing

Also he is not available until january so they need to start well

Confirmed - joins in January as a player/coach after the end of the MLS season

I get the risk if he came now but I think him coming in January is a bit odd.

unless he is just a coach to play under a full time manager.

Original grange end blue

Thats gone t.ts up all ready the frog signing
I hope your right in telling us doubters to wait and see, we did sign glatzel ,
But excuses about not wanting to come, wages, rain in wales etc, are wearing a bit thin its the same for everybody else in the championship and neil did say he was going to have a chat with top 3 upstairs and make a push for promotion knowing full well its going to cost, but we have sold as much as we have spent so have we really pushed the boat out this transfer window.

Monty, I’m no different to you.
I want and think we need more quality than we have.
These rumours of the players we are after don’t look good enough for me and I think we need to make a statement and sign a couple of quality, experienced players or we’ll be struggling big time to make an impression this season.

I was trusting Warnock to bring in some decent players, telling you to be patient as I trust him. It may still happen but he’s leaving it late!!

"I think we've arrived as a football club this year. We're a big club now and we've got to think big now." That's an exact quote from Warnock at the end of last season. Silly me thinking we were gonna spend more than 2m net. I just assumed that we'd be spending somewhere around the 15m area. Lets just hope the signings we already have can make the step up.
