I have no doubt he will be back playing just behind a striker as last time in the championship.

Good because we need him.

I don't know anything about the new guy, but have everything crossed that he comes up trumps. It's just a concern that if Patterson ended up being our striker in the Premier, there must be a real chance he could end up there in the Championship too.
I'm hoping not, as that should mean somebody else is firing

Paterson is not a striker full stop!!!

Warnock will find a place in the team for Callum .. he's a leader that we need when the chips are down.

That's fine no problem but not as a striker otherwise we will struggle to score except for dead balls in area......

Re: ‘ Callum Paterson ‘

He started his career as a right back so has defensive attributes (Surely)

Played for us in both the 10 role and striker.

Could he now be converted to a holding midfielder role ? Hmmm

Re: ‘ Callum Paterson ‘

Mon Aug 05, 2019 6:15 pm

Maybe try him back at right back!!

Re: ‘ Callum Paterson ‘

Mon Aug 05, 2019 6:26 pm

He won't be a defensive player as warnock already said he can't defend. So will probably be back up number 10.

That's always been my thought along with his energy.

Certainly not a Right back at this level, gets turned inside out.

He's a RB but Warnock may try him in a holding roll and push him forward if we are chasing the game

Personally I would drop him into Midfield start with the new striker and Bogle

Reid is but to me hes constantly played out of position so we wont see his full potential

Well that's normal for NW playing people out of position ! That's why never see the best of several players.

Bogle deserves a start, not put a put wrong, scored in pre season and last weeks game. I think he needs to get given the chance he has never been given. So Bogle with Reid just behind etc , then Glatzel if fit or Pats

Patterson best position is as a striker full stop!!!

He can also do a job in midfield but playing him out wide or as a fullback is just stupid.

Best for who not for us thats for sure unless you want us to play up and under football because thats all we did for 90% of games he played upfront in, he offered nothing as a goalscorer only as a battering ram without much success and certainly could not hold ball up at all......

Striker is probably his worst position. I'd probably try him in goal before upfront again. Awful.

Agreed. He is a nuisance but can't hold the ball up and his lack of pace means we don't have an escape route when he's upfront.

That said, in the Championship I do think we should try him in CM. He's not a wide player, defender or number 10 but he's physical and good in the air and that's something we're obviously lacking in midfield at the moment. This issue is would he be disciplined enough to sit infront of the CBs ?

I don't mind him as a number 10, like you said he is a pain for defenders and covers a lot of ground as long as he has someone ahead of him. But we have Reid who is a far better option.

He has everything needed to be a midfielder, just not sure we have the time for him to be able to make mistakes learning.

Re: ‘ Callum Paterson ‘

Tue Aug 06, 2019 5:48 pm

I'm more than happy with Patterson or Reid playing the number 10 role, especially as Patterson has always put in an immense defensive shift for us from that position, as well as the goals he contributed to the cause the last time in the Championship.

Re: ‘ Callum Paterson ‘

Tue Aug 06, 2019 8:39 pm

A midfield 3 of Paterson, Vaulks, and Ralls might work, with 2 wingers from Murphy, ML, Holiett and Whyte could be an option
